"How short of a throw do I want?"
To lighten the mood a bit, you have to realize that a lot of people around here play video games. I suppose if they could have a shifter you could manipulate like a Nintendo thumbstick, they'd jump on it.
It's true, but I learnt the hard way that you can go too short. I have the C's Short Shift and Muz counter sunk knob and had all sorts of trouble finding 3rd at the track on Sunday.
I welcome all attempts at improving our shifter but like so many things with this car, there ain't a lot of room for improvement. I'm going to try the OEM knob on the C's and then the Muz knob on stock again and will try this product if it's made to find the best balance.
Not to give anything away, since Richard has stated that he will not post further till he has some feedback on real products.
Beta testing is now underway with several S2000 owners. I have asked Richard to post in this thread once he gets "test results". Stay tuned.
BTW, my initial response was based on one bit from the initial post:
"Now I see no posts regarding shifters on this post. Horrors every other carr has them. Do you want them?"
To me, this indicated that he was interested in selling a mod to people who wanted to check off a mod list, not to people who wanted to improve the feel of the shifting. I reacted accordingly.
I do wonder if Richard has actually driven an S2K on a track, though. I have, many times, and short of a sequential gearbox I don't think it would be easy to improve the shifting. Certainly not without spending a ton of money that would be better spent on other things.
However, that just means I'm not going to buy one of his kits. Other people can decide as they will. Lord knows, the market for $2500 "JDM coilover" kits certainly is big enough, and they don't do a dang thing to help the car on the track....

um, k.... so suspension tuning means nothing on the track? a 2500 coilover built by a reputable racing company will dramatically improve lap times due to increased handling and enter/exit speeds, but I guess you can have the same performance from a set of springs eh?

It's off topic, but I'm curious: how many track days did you drive your S2000 at last year?
Let's give Richard a break here. Yes, the S2000 has the best shifter I have ever driven, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved upon. Lets see what he comes up with. Even if it's only a slight improvement I'll take one. The market will be the test of success or failure.
I lied to you I did go ahead and build it anyway. Just to give a little tease here is a picture. You are looking at left to right: Stock S2k. C's short throw shifter, Axialflow Engineering Prototype shifter.
We are evaluating these in some outside cars now. When all the info is in we will modify if nessasary or go to some Beta testing with other owners. With that done we will release production parts.
I forgot I have to import the photo first into an album. So I'll print this and then the next post will have the pic.
Forgot, I can just edit.
This unit has 20% less throw and is 30mm lower then stock
