Hell, 70 is just the beginning of the envelope for 3rd gear.

It holds its own with any boxster or tt but at 10k less money! I have driven the tt and it is a great car with alot of extra features the S2000 doesn't have but I can not justify 42K for the 225HP Conv.

As for the Supra, it is legendary, my father-in-law had both a 2001 Audi TT 225HP Quatro Cpe as well as a 1995 Supra. That car was great!!! But, since they don't make them anymore any good ones are high priced and probably ragged out. Toyota is thinking about rereleasing the Supra to combat the 350Z but who knows when and how much?

My choice is the S2000, it is all a sports car should be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about the 350Z?

287 hp at 6200 rpm.

274 ft-lb of torque at 4800 rpm.

1/4 mile in under 14 seconds.

MSRP under $27,000.

A convertible will be available in Feb 03.

This is all IMHO, as one who has test driven both cars.

The S2000 is a wonderful car, and an exceptional bargain for the money, but IMHO the Boxster handles just that much better. It may not have the HP, and it's certainly not in the same price range (an equivalent Boxster would be the S, and equivalently equipped you're pushing $60K), but if I were taking an unfamiliar curve at speed I'd rather do it in the Boxster - it just felt more level, more sure-footed and less tail-happy when doing the wrong thing.

The top is certainly nicer in the Boxster as well - double lined so that all the top mechanics (cross bars and such) which are "open" in the S2000 are completely hidden in the Boxster.

The Boxster is also better for those of us who are tall - at 6'1 the roll bars are just slightly below head level for me in a Boxster where they're a good two to three inches below the top of my head in the S2000.

The Boxster also has the advantage of more trunk space, albeit in a slightly more strange form factor than the S2000, and also has a gas tank suited to those who don't want to have to stop at every fueling opportunity when driving I-70 between Grand Junction, CO and Cove Point, UT, just to be safe (that 13 gallon tank goes quick when you see "Next Services, 250 Miles.")

Are these things important? Who knows - only you can decide whether the $28K premium (and the untold more dollars you will spend on maintenance and service because it's a Porsche - like $200 for an oil change) make it worth it to you...

(Not to mention the endless arguments with yourself about choosing classic analog gauges and the Porsche marke vs. the way-cool digital dash and the even more cool red Engine Start button on the S2000...)

Billk....you seem to be the only person that i've seen so far that thought the Boxster handles better than the s2000 and prefers the boxster over the s2000....but hey...to each his own right?...in performance and racing terms though..how does the s2k match up to these types of cars?

Yea, it would be interesting, but the Supra has traditionally been out of the reach of < 32K car buyers. I'd like to see a new Celica. While the engine is impressive on the latest Celica, the one I test drove didn't feel as solid as the older Celicas. I think in reality its suspension is actually much more firm, but drove completely different from the older Celica.

The old Z used to be in about the same price range of the Supra and look what the 350Z is priced.
