This is very sad...but what is worse is to blame the car......actually the car is safer than most...It stops on a dime.. it turns on a dime and it has the most solid body I have known, the brightest headlights at night and the list goes on...If you take any other car at the same speed (both doing 35 mph) and some one pulls out in front of you ...the accident could be avoided better by the S2000 for the reasons listed above....

I agree about the youth thing...being only 21 I can reasonable say this....when I was 16-21 I had a 60 hp honda cx hatch back (any faster of a car I would not be here today for sure) thankyou very much mom and dad for not letting me by anything else (that is love for your child) even though they could have gotten me a Viper. And I have to say they tried to stop me from buying the S2000 but, it is my money.

When I have kids, the will get the slowest safest car because for the most part including me accidents happen. Now after 300,000+ miles I can better avoid this ( you can not avoid them all)

Love life and be safe.

I make anyone who rides with me ware a selt belt..and I drive 1000x better when anyone is with me... or even on the road with me....I owe that to everyone ( treat people like you want to be treated)

A SAD STORY ON MY PART....ONE DAY I WAS WITH SOMEONE WHO DID NOT RESPECT THE SAFTY OF ME...I ASKED HIM TO SLOW DOWN OR I WOULD GET OUT AND WALK HOME ...10 MINUTES LATER WE WENT 60-0 MPH INTO A TELEPHONE POLE AND I HAD TO WALK HOME WITH BROKEN BONES AND TORN MUSCLES
NEXT TIME I WILL NOT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
please learn from me and this...

I think age is a very important factor here. Teenage drivers have a lot less experience driving than someone who has been driving for more than 10-15 years. There is a reason why younger drivers have one of the highest insurance premiums. They are involved in a much higher percntage of accidents in their age group. I was a teenager myself and during that time I thought I was the greatest driver in the world. Looking back at it know I can only laugh at myself and consider myself very lucky to have not been involved in any accidents. (Maybe my 90 hp '87 civic had something to do with it) I see my cousin drive his '69 mustang around like his a drunk Mario Andretti and he just turned 18. I really think its better for beginner drivers to start with a car that is easier to handle so they can get some experience behind the wheel before they put the life of others in danger.
I'm not saying that young drivers are bad drivers, it's just that the numbers are not in their favor, as they weren't either when I was a teenager.

ccarnel,

Lots of insite and wisdom in your comments and I hope other young hot shoes will heed your youthful advice. I've mentioned to my wife that the dragon run certainly sounds like it has the potential for something as tragic.

Ya know, it is good to see some of the younger S owners agree that giving a teenager a powerful auto has risk. I think it shows their maturity! The other young S owners that think we are crazy for thinking this, unfortunatly, will probally be one of the next statistics.
Let's all learn from this tragic incident and slow down especially when it is wet.

My parents must be beyond stupid because i have the s2000 and a 98 tt supra at my disposal. But I would like to point out that you are generalizing. Just because i am 17 dosn't mean i run 110+ everywhere it's not only stupid but pointless. I get so tired of hearing this same argument. The fact is kids speed wether they are in a ferrari, viper, s2000, accord, civic, or a pinto for that matter. So my question to all of you is what do you want your kid to be in going 100+ in, since any car you buy them short of an electric car can do it, a car such as an accord? Or maybe a high performance machiene that is made to handle these speeds? With the s2000 you have one of the best handling along with one of the safest cars around. Not to mention the amazing brakes. When kids are acting stupid, which they will, they should have the safest car possible. To some of you that may mean the biggest or the slowest but to me the safest car possible is the one that is quick, nimble, and has great breaks. Not to mention the fear of messing up their baby which every new drivers car is no matter what car. This is one of the biggest factors. I know first hand there isn't a kid that will not go up to 100 no matter what car they drive. Again these generalizations bother me i have been driving my S2000 since i was 15 years old. Think of it what you want just telling you it dosn't happen the way you think all of the time.

I meant like on the expressway for a quick little run not continually running 100.
