STI version won't be boosted though.

Ouch that is some bad news. Why would they make a sports car and then let it be the only sporty model that does not get the turbo engine. Just pathetic if you ask me.

I'm not sure why they won't boost the STI. The base motor is 12.5:1 so it on it's own couldn't be boosted. But I figured they'd drop in the motor from the WRX STI and give you 300hp, which in my books would make it some car. However it probably wouldnt rev up as nicely. I've also been told there is a redesign of the STI boosted 2.5 coming as they're running into issues with the motor and future emissions standards will become a problem.

While I type this I suspect part of the non-boosting must be MPG related. It's 2020 for them to get 35mpg or get fined. Subaru cannot figure out how to tune a turbo'd motor to get power while on the throttle and great mpg while cruising. They also have no 'top end' so who knows.

The BRZ/FR-S should be flops. I swear they are getting more attention than Honda with the launch of the S2000. We all know the S was so much more car than what the folks at Subaru have ever built. So I'm a little puzzled by the whole thing.

The hype is that they brought out a lightweight RWD coupe for under $30k. A Hyundai Genesis is a boat compared to the FR-S.

Yet it goes around the track faster than the FRS/BRZ. So as track times compare for $1k more you get a faster car, with more 'toys' and a better warranty. Agreed the Genesis is more a GT car but I'm not sure what the frs/brz falls into?

With 75hp and 125 ft-lbs more, the Genesis better be quicker. You can't toss the Genesis around the corner like the FR-S, but it makes up for it on the straight where it has a big power advantage.

S2000 owners of all people should know power isn't what makes a car fun and exciting. Cars like the Civic SI, Integra GS-R, and Miatas certainly didn't rise to their fame due to their low-hp engines. We loved them because they were light, toss-able, and fun to modify. The FR-S/BR-Z will fall into that category. Those who look beyond the stock numbers will appreciate the car for what it really is. It's been a while since we had a RWD coupe with a proper 6spd manual, weighing less than 2800lbs, for under $30k. Where else can you find that in the new car market?

There are a butt-loads of cars with more features, power, 'toys' than the S2000, but we always defend the S2000 by telling others that's not what the S2K is all about. It's the sheer driving experience. From most, if not all reviews so far, all fingers point to the FR-S/BR-Z as being one of the better driving cars out there today. Hell, it even has better steering feedback than the S2000. Why can't this car share the same fate? It's easy to poke fun at the FR-S for being 'underpowered', overpriced, etc. Let us not forget we were once criticized by the V6/V8 guys in their larger RWD cars for the exact same argument. Why buy an S2000 when you can get a (fill in the blank) for $xxxx.xx less and still be faster in the quarter mile?

If people are concentrating on how much power it makes on paper, then they're missing the point of this car.
