Several months of correspondance with Soundgate about an adapter for head unit contro
I want to upgrade my audio setup in my S2000. However it is low on my priority list. I know I'll need to wait to the spring to have some extra cash around to do what I want.
I am a big fan of the work that independents such as Rick, Pinky and Mingster have done for our cars. However, since I am in no rush to make this mod I decided to inquire with a company called Soundgate. They make car audio remote control adapters for a lot of cars and from what I have heard have a decent reputation fo quality.
I am including in this post several months worth of e-mail correspondence with a representative from Soundgate in regards to an adapter for our S2000.
Bottom line from them is that they do not expect to have a product till at least Q1 2001. All the more reason to be thankful for people like Pinky who have made products available for our car that bigger companies do not have the time and resources available to devote to making these products.

Do you have a product that will allow me to replace the stock head unit in my Honda S2000 and still keep the factory remote controls?
Thanks -- Tom
Tom,
Not yet, but we are working on one and expect to have something available around August. It will be called the REMOTE2 and work with Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, JVC and more (to be determined).
Our products are available direct (MC, Visa and American Express) or from dealers around the US. If you would like me to try and find a dealer in your area, let me know your zip code and phone area code.
Thanks,
Rich

Just checking to see if the REMOTE2, for the Honda S2000 is available yet. I'm looking to get one to work with an Alpine head unit and my Honda's dash controls.

Not quite yet. We are in the testing process on our prototype and it
Should be about a month to 6 weeks. We had to pull our engineer off and put him on an emergency update to some current products so the schedule slipped a little.
Thanks,
Rich

Tom,
Our engineer handling that project has been in Europe quite a bit over the past six weeks so the schedule has suffered a little. We are supposed to have the final prototype for testing sometime in the next week or two. If all tests well, we will be in production in October.
Thanks,
Rich

Rich, any updates on the availability of the REMOTE2 unit for the
Honda S2000. I know many other S2000 owners who are waiting for such a product. You can check out www.s2000online.com and check the message boards to gauge demand for yourself.
Please let me know when it will be available.

Tom,
We had to pull our engineers off the Honda project to catch up on a couple emergency projects, but they will be back on it in a couple weeks. We are now looking at first quarter of 2001.
I know there are a lot of S2000 owners out there waiting, and I am sorry the steering wheel control interface isn't out yet. Sometimes priorities have to shift.
Thanks,
Rich

I am even amazed they are entertaining the idea for the S2000. Though it may also work for upcomming Honda's.
Their prioities have seemed to slip a lot! I was expected to get dumped on with Sound Gate stuff EARLY like 2Q of 2000 now its 1Q 2001. I will make a guess that we wont see this piece till at least 3Q 2001 if not later.

Its no skin off my teeth, but I figured more people would be interested to read these e-mails.

I have a very similar string of messages to and from Soundgate, the last one said November, so i guess it slipped again. Too bad. I'm however putting my car in the garage for the winter, so i guess i can wait. But if it's not here before spring i'll get in line at Pinky's!
NJTom2000: Im not trying to shut you down at all. I actually appreciate your post. I am glad to see your keeping up on it.
I am still looking to hear more info on the Amps of America piece I think Zoinks is gonna install.
Hell any of the pieces that get made I will probably be selling anyways.

The Amps of America part was backordered so
I had the PAC Steering Wheel Interface installed last weekend. I have control of all the buttons except the mode toggle.
This piece is pretty much like Pinky's mod. I just had it installed locally. (No offense pinky!)
Here the part as in my prior post:
It works rather well.
