LOL, it wasn't my intent to confuse anyone. It's just that CKit's comment seemed like very bad advice, and I wanted to understand his thinking and/or intent.
With the level of sophistication in this thread, I was advising the OP not to shift mid-turn (assuming that the shift would be ill-timed and poorly executed) and upsetting the balance of the car... leading to the infamous "black ice / gravel / wet leaves and spun out" epidemic.

Before.

In AP2, 3rd before turns if you're going easy, 2nd for more acceleration or if it's a slower turn. Should be similar for AP1.

BTW, AP1 is 2000-2003, AP2 is 2004+. The gearing is different.
Hell, I drop that sucka into 1st gear for turns

This same topic keeps coming up. I don't quite get why people need to ask when to shift. Shift at 9k or shift at 2k. It's your car so it's up to you. If you are asking for fuel economy than refer to the Honda manual.

Do you really think that saves gas? Have you tested to confirm? I'd be interested to see what real life savings you've seen.

I haven't gone through enough tanks of gas, but it seems that if you shifted that low, you'd just bog and get medium to bad gas mileage, but not great.
The car does bog if shifting at 2500rpm.

Forget everything else anyone has said, these are the real rules of S2K driving:

1st gear is the ONLY passing gear. Downshifting to 5th does not suffice when on the highway.

Clutch dumps strengthen the transmission internals and help circulate fluid in the differential.

Tires need to be changed often. Every 50,000 - 120,000 miles.

Experiment with mixing different tire sizes and treads. Find what you like.

Your S2000 may burn oil every few thousand miles. Replace burned oil with canola oil to prevent this.

50-50 racing is a great place to take care of all your modding needs.

And finally, STAY IN VTEC. ALL THE TIME.

I think you're wrong. IIRC, olive oil is better as well as for the purpose of cleaning.
