- thats what I was wondering...
- I thought there were a few different terms... I use the word "speedshifting" also..

What do you want to know? The push rod is between the pedal and the clutch master cylinder. There is a specific method for adjusting it. If you take out all the free play like the person who posted above, you are asking that pressure be applied to the release bearing all the time. This is good for auto parts people who sell clutches, but not for people who have no idea what they're doing and have more money than brains!!

They gave me a copy of a technical service bulletin from Honda saying this is normal on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts when the gearbox is cold.

I started shifting from
1->2 @ 15 mph
2->3 @ 25 mph
3->4 @ 40 mph
like the owner's manual says and the shifts are much smoother. I'm prob. gonna change tran/diff fluids and see if that helps too.

I've been going through a somewhat similar situation (it's still ongoing), and if your issue is anything like mine, then I believe there's both a driver / shifting style component as well as a "something wrong with the car" component.

On my stock '02 car, I was able to shift from 1->2 without issue until the car hit maybe 56k miles. After that, both 1st and 2nd gear became a lot more difficult to engage (it was hard to push the stick in), and the 1->2 shift was particularly bitchy. However, several other people have driven my car, and didn't notice the same difficulties. I wouldn't have believed them had I not seen it with my own eyes.

I always figured something was up with my tranny, but now I wonder about the clutch system as well. Does your clutch feel funny at all? Is it stiffer compared to other S2000 clutches? My clutch felt like crap around the time this stuff started happening, and is currently getting a new master and slave cylinder put in. I'll know the results in a few days...

In my case, changing the tranny fluid with Honda MTF didn't help at all. But, changing the clutch fluid did help for a few days, which indicated that the clutch system might play a role.

Just keep your rpm's above 3,000 at all times and you'll be fine.

The grinding is definitely the teeth grinding... When it's cold and I'm shifting easy and slow, I feel the notchiness as well, but they slide in no problem, without the actual grind. The only time I get the grind is when I really shift fast, and only 1-2. Every other gear can take the speed of my shifting, just not the 1-2.
