Maybe there's just a small minority of us that have this shifter changes feel post-oil change.

Even on my VW Jetta the shifter would feel a little smoother after an oil-change.

I really think that it's either engine oil has something to do with shifting (which doesn't make sense, when considering how parts are connected)

or...

Some people perceive shifting differently than others. What is smooth to me is not to you... vice versa.

 

Gears always shift easier with higher revs. Maybe the fresh engine oil is keeping the RPMs from dropping too much between shifts?

Pure speculation, I just pulled that answer out of my a** lol.


But if I'm right I want full credit for being an automotive genius.

 

Lol, never heard of that, although my car is tempermental and sometimes it shifts smoother than others (even after it warms up). Maybe it's weather related?

Make that two @$$e$! I was thinking the same thing! The notchiness also seems to disappear at higher revs.

You know, even the Nobel prize is sometimes split into two!

 

It's something to think about, but i'm just talking about general shifter feel. It'll be smoother while I'm at a complete stop just idling with the clutch pedal all the way down.

One of my friends suggested that maybe after an oil change the engine is running smoother so the tranny & shifter are aligned better, but that doesn't hold up to my logic...

Part of my thinks it could be weather related. More than temps, It could be related to temp & barometric pressure. You know how guys can feel a previously broken bone when the barometer drops, maybe there's something there. Who knows...

Well at least I know that some people do experience the same thing as me.

 

it probably has to do with the engine running smoother giving you an affect that shifting is smoother.

 

I just got my engine oil changed today, I will pay attention to see if my tranny is any smoother

 

I guess technically, the transmission IS bolted to the motor, which may run a little smoother with a fresh oil change, thus, making the connected transmission running a tad smoother, but yes, its still all in your head.

 

Well my friend with an '05 s2k, drove my car even told me that the shifter felt really notchy. In contrast, when I drove his, the shifter didn't even feel like it was touching anything. Butter smooth.

Anyway, I guess I will never know if there is a direct or indirect connection. It's not much of a big deal since I've been using my special additives for engine oil, the shifter has gotten consistently much smoother. Anyone who wants to try the additives, I share some of mine. I'm in 18104 so give me a holler.
