Should I Return This CF Hood?? (pics)
The word that I got today from the body shop is that they don't want to paint the defective hood from Evolution because of the poor condition of the clear coat finish. The shop is saying that the surface is so bad, that it will require some filler, which will not adhere properly to the clear coat.
I am supposed to go in tomorrow and look at the hood, mounted on the car, and I will try to get photos of what the shop is talking about.
I know it will be no problem finding a shop to paint the hood. The problem is that the shop that has my car does HIGH QUALITY work, and they want to make sure my car is done right, which is exactly what I want. I will only have the hood painted at a quality shop that will guarantee their work.
Another problem is that to paint this defective hood from Evolution may cost more than to replace it!
If all of this is true, and another shop says the same thing, I'm going to be really angry about the situation.

I say keep it and be proud of the workmanship....that is, if it fits good.

Pete, one question regarding your body shop. If they say they only work on oem parts. How can they work on or do a good work on an aftermarket product. Please take some pix of the hood on the car.
Jeff-
That is true. The shop that I am at only does OEM work, but that is not the reason why I will have to take the defective hood somewhere else to paint. It is because of the poor condition of the clear coat. My shop is saying that no shop will be able to give it a proper paint job.
THE PAINTING ISSUE IS NOT RELATED TO THE DEFECTS IN THE WEAVE. THIS IS ANOTHER PROBLEM.
My shop is capable of doing some custom work, for example, they shaved my emblems, and painted my headlight inserts. They also said that they would be okay with painting the hood, if it was in good condition. In any case, I am confident in their ability to assess the condition of the defective hood.
I am supposed to see the hood today if it is mounted.
If there is any chance of exchanging the defective hood, please let me know, and I will ask the shop to re-pack it, instead of mounting it. Because you told me that I could not return or exchange the hood, I have asked the shop to mount it, until I can figure out what to do.
I will try to get some pics of the hood showing the defects in the clear coat today, but I expect the hood to be mounted when I see it.
Please let me know if you decide to help me out with this defective product.

I think that you have to pay big money to get a "good" hood for your car. I bought a Fiber Images hood for my GSR and sold it after one day because the thing had terrible fit and finish. To get a nice one will cost you.

regardless, it looks excellent!
Hmm Pete, I am wondering if your shop is really charging to much. I know a shop here in NYC that does incredible work on classic car restoration and specializes in Corvettes and they told me it would only cost me about $200 to strip the entire clearcoat and reapply.
