Default something wrong with my S...

Hey guys, it's happen for 2nd time since i bought the car. I was on first gear and stepped on the gas. When it hit about 5.5k or 6k, it seemed like the rev. limiter kicked in or something and wouldn't allow me to go beyond 6k. I quickly shifted to second and stopped the car at the next block. It only happen twice and I don't know what i did wrong. (This is my first stick shift ever) For a second, I thought i started the car in 3rd but I doubt it. What's happening to my black on black beauty??? Any Ideas????

Check your oil level. VTEC will not engage once oil gets below a certain point, and has caused this "rev-limiter" effect to happen to many people.

The ECU won't let you into VTEC until the car reaches 3 bars. It sounds like your car was probably still cold, so the ECU cut fuel to the engine when you were getting ready to hit VTEC.

rookie mistake, that happened to me too when i just bought my car. anyway, make sure your temp gauge is more than one bar. at least two or three, then you can rev the engine pass 6 g's. that is a safety for the engine when it is cold. just try it again. but this time, warm up your engine a little bit longer.

There's actually some pretty funny stories from other S2000 owners who have embarassed themselves from this same mistake. I'm glad my salesperson knew about this and informed me before I added to these stories

It's the golden rule for all VTEC cars. Gotta m ake sure the car is warmed up enough and also has enough oil.
