You can get or make a flat cover for the area and get rid of that hideous bulge (I'll admit I've been too lazy to do this so far but it is still on my list of to-do's).
I made one in about 15 minutes one day. Great freeing up all that trunk space

My spare tire is in
My tool kit/foam floor bottom is out
The tools are wrapped up in an old pair of jeans and sit down inside the spare wheel

+1 (except I use a towel instead of jeans). I removed the styrofoam tool holder and all of the interior trim in the trunk (because I spilled some diff fluid back there). I've got no reason to remove the spare, so I leave it there... "just in case". I take it out while autocrossing, but not until I get to the track. If/when the car is converted to a full racecar (that is trailered to/from the track), then I'll remove the spare permanently.

Otherwise, there's just no point in removing it for me (since I don't carry much in my trunk, and removing the styrofoam tool holder freed up tons of room anyway).

took the tire and the toolkit out, put the jack in a sock behind the passenger seat, the towhooks in the passenger glovey, and the tire iron in the passenger side net.

Don't know why I kept the tools with no spare, I probably ony really need the tow hooks and the wheel lock key.

Im planning on using the space for an amp, or a sub, or both
