Did it come from the dealer you purchased it from, or did it come direct from AHM?
Thanks, Aimee!
XV, we'll have to have a look at these plugs in the the US kit. I think it's the same as what you've been getting in the great-white, but no confirmation. People are starting to get the work done.

Rick, thanks for the info. The TSB wording did indeed call it a "campaign". Looks like Honda has sorta' changed their def'n of "recall". Hey, fine by me!
It is from AHM in Torrance, CA - It is titled "Product Update Campaign: S2000 Spark Plugs". Make sure if any of you that have moved since you purchased your S2000, that Honda has you current address. I was not sure if and when I was going to get one, since I have moved in the past couple months, but I had registered on Honda's website on the Owners Link and given them my VIN and current address, and I go t the letter dated July 2002.
Here's what it looks like to me. The literature sent to US ownes still calls it a Product Update (although internally Honda may reimburse as if its a Recall). The spark plug as I understand it is changing from NGK PFR7G-11 to the same number with a S added at the end, to represent the new stainless steel retaining washer. And, of course, the tourque goes up 5 lbs.

Are we being "hoodwinked" by Honda?

In the decades of plugs for cars, not one car has required a new type of crush washer for a particular car to my knowledge.
Maybe the problem is with NGK oem specifically?
Anyway, if indeed these "new" plugs have the same part number on the box, then the "problem" has been with the torque setting, imo.

If you want new plugs for free, go get the TSB (or recall). If you have a torque wrench handy and you don't want to mess around with taking the car in, just screw them down tighter yourself. In either case, still check them in a couple of months or in a couple thousand miles. I'm finding that the original plugs are still backing out a bit @20#s. I'd be curious if the new plugs will do the same later.
One thing about the Internet, it can sometimes add as much confusion as solutiions. In the Dutch recall posting of July 1st, Ronald photographed the new plug's in the their box with PFR7G-11 stamped on it (ie, no S on the box). On Honda's corporate site it shows a drawing of a plug with the crush washer circled in red.. but the text is all in Japanese; so, it's hard to say what they are saying. However, the sample Canadian letter written by the Exec VP of Honda Canada specifically made the statement I used about the new part # with 'S' on the end. That seemed like a reliable source to me. On the other hand, the July 10 TSB itself makes no mention of a new part #. Who knows what going on??
Aimee,
Thanks for posting the letter!!! Much appreciated!
XV, guys, maybe someone can get a picture of the US plugs (old and new) and settle the discussion. I wouldn't jump to any conclusion before that. We need to see the "kit" that's coming from the dealers.
Best wishes.
