This may be a stupid question. Why would a BOV cause pollution problems?

The BOV in on the intake side to limit/release the pressure built up by the turbo, right? So all that it releases is air, not exhaust gases. All exhaust still goes through the exhaust side of the turbo and out the exhaust, just like without a BOV.

What am I missing?

The BOV blows off excess exhaust gas to keep the turbo spinning at a nice steady rate. Some sort of valve that was on the intake portion wouldn't work well, since all of the exhaust gas would go into the turbo and put a lot of pressure on the turbo mechanism itself. The exhaust gas that gets blown off doesn't go through your muffler, and is probably some pretty toxic fumes.

cd

PS: I hope derryck doesn't mind I'm copying him so much. I'm going with the dual apexi exhaust as well.

PPS: This is just sick btw, I'm having dreams (not daydreams, real DREAMS) about the car already. Boy am I excited.

ChrisD and Randy, I live in pretty close proximity to Mclean also and would be more than happy to help video tape the SC vs. TC, provided that one of you guys has a video camera. When things get better with the economy, I'll be thinking about the turbo kit as well. Keep me informed if you plan get together, thanks.

Cool autox, that might be a possibility.. but I doubt I'll have my car up there before winter, so I don't know for sure. Maybe we can get some people to rent MIR sometime, then we can get video clips, time slips, AND witnesses! Would put an end to the endless stream of bickering here perhaps.

And tanq, ya got me. I think I am confusing the BOV and the wastegate. You got links to any of those FAQs? And again, this confuses me, it would appear that yes, the BOV itself wouldn't cause emissions regulation problems, instead the wastegate would.

However, I found from someone else that florida doesn't have emissions laws? Perhaps someone can validate this?

You can always rerout the vented pipe back in to the filter just like the way they do from manufactors

What, and muffle that great sound?

Guys, forget about the BOV issue for a minute haha

Unless it has a CARB number in Cali, you are done. It will not pass smogs and you can get sent to the ref. If you don`t need to smog your vehicle in the state you live in, I envy you! The BOV itself does not make the kit illegal, it`s that fact that the kit has not been CARB tested and approved (long process). If the kit is approved, like Greddy, it was done w/ out a blow off valve.
