Default spray methanol

has anybody heard about this way to add power on the cars? my buddy who has an SRT-4. He directed the windshield fluid to the intake so it sprays the fluid into the intake. The fluid contents methanol in there so when it sprays in, its just like he pumps 100 octane gas. anybody heard about this before?

i have a friend he sprays windshield fluid (methanol) into his subie 99 rs-t coupe. he has a built engine and is putting down about 475awhp. . . although i dont know much about methanol i think its more for boosted cars. My understanding is that is lowers temps = denser air = more hp.

The reason to spray water in the intake, is to cool down the air charge. Because with high boost pressure the air gets hot, and will cause the engine to detonate. As for windshild washer fluid, it has alcohol for the cleaning part. The oringnal reason to use a water and alcohol mix was because it was used on large supercharged aircraft engines, when using high amounts of manifold pressure, and later on jet engines. The alcohol was there to keep it from freezing at high alltitudes.

Most blue washer fluid is 50/50 Water/Methanol (with a tiny amount of harmless dye added). Plenty of people use it for knock suppression when running high boost on pump gas. Think of it as poor-man's race fuel. It is injected in a fine mist and absorbs a lot of the combustion heat as it boils. I can't see a practical application on our cars (turbo excluded) unless you were to really advance the timing while running around on 93oct.

I don't know anything about it, but a friend's EVO made 90 extra whp on it (420 w/o 510w/) But he doesn't use a ghetto windshield washer setup.

Fperra uses a water/ethanol sprayer on his itb/turbo project in this thread

Cooler air charge = denser air => AIT reacts to cooler air => more power
