I just put in the new Sony speakers, and WOW what a difference! I couldn't believe it! I can actually play music loud enough to hear it on the highway with the top down, and it does not sound like crap!

Thanks to everyone that posted information on how to replace it. I would never have yanked on the interior panels like that without all that help.

Anyway, now that I actually can play music, I raided my CD collection and started playing CDs in the car. The first few CDs I played were skipping, even though I could see no sratches, dust or anything on them.

I figured it was because I live on a really bumpy road. So this morning, before going to work, before even starting the car, I opened up a brand new CD. Put it in. Guess what? It skips!! Further investigation showed that the first 20 minutes of EVERY CD I put in the car skips. The rest of the CD seems to play fine.

Has anyone else had this kind of problem?
Even on another stereo?
Should warranty cover this?

Which Sony's did you install and are you using the stock radio?

Try a CD lense cleaner disc. Short of that, take it to your dealer and ask them to replace it with the 2001 unit... At least you'll get a free clock!

I'm using the stock radio and I got the Sony XS-V1621. I am very happy with them, and the sound is good enough for me that I don't feel like I need an amp.

I chose these over the 1631's because they require less power. I think the 1621's would have required an amp.

Anyway, this stereo problem is driving me nuts. I will try to get the stereo replace next week. I tried a cleaner disc and it changed nothing.

Sparky,

I put the '31s in my baby and they sound great, no amp necessary (although I'll probably install one when I get around to putting in a sub). If they're not damaged, I'd consider taking the '21s back and swapping them out (if that's your bag).
