Stock or Modified?
i like it stock, but perhaps that's more a state of my impoverishment. I wonder sometimes if i had loot if i would take that other road not taken. But stock is nice, it's relatively trouble free and reliable, for the most part, it's hard to blow ur engine stock.
I don't think there's anything wrong with a stock S2000. But once you do start throwing stuff on, it pretty much doesn't stop. I think the best "mods" for an S2000 are the simple things(maybe not the cheapest either), ie; coilovers, wheels, a nice single exhaust(cause that's what belongs on this car, ha), and maybe a few other things.
My previous Miata was modded to the hilt - turbo, coilovers etc etc. It was a PITA - very fast and handled like a dream, but I was having to constantly fiddle with it.
When I bought the S I wanted something that didn't modding so I swapped in a 4.77 FD, bought a front lower brace and a hardtop. The car came with CAI, MY04+ 17's and an excellent sound system.
One thing I'll try not to do is waste money on NA mods - I'll just save up for a supercharger and leave it at that - or not

When I bought the car I told myself I just wanted better sound. So I lowered the cabin noise with car-quiet and got a new headunit which came with a modify DCI and Ipod cable (another member sold it to me for dirt cheap).
When the rotors/pads needed replacing I got OEM spec rotors (non-honda) and hawk pads. I'd probably been happier with honda pads.
I'm going to be driving this car until I get bored of it. It's pretty quick stock but I'd love for more power.
My plan, and my wife is on board. Is to drive this thing and make it a weekend car in the next year. Once it is, I'll put a SC unit on it. If the motor needs rebuilding, I will do that to.
I personally feel not much can really be improved on the appearance and will leave that stock. So for me, the only thing to improve is the power output.

When they save the carpet from wearing out, I think they are well worth it. I would rather spend $350 in mats than have the carpet wear through. Have you ever actually checked out the mats in person they are INSANELY well constructed, factory mats are like paper in comparison. The fitment is just perfect and there is not much factory carpet exposed at all. They are like throwing a bullet proof vest over the factory carpet. The superior construction along with taking proper care of them and mine show not one ounce of wear.
I guess it helps that mine came with the car from the previous owner and I did not really pay for them. The funny thing is I had no idea what they were and when the owner told me my car would come with them and the factory mats I told him just to keep the Mutts mats and give me the factory ones (that is how adamant I was on keeping the car completely stock). He explained that once I actually saw the mats in person I would be quick to change my mind, well the factory mats have not gone in my car in the 1 1/2 years that I have owned it.
And yes there are select times that I sleep on them

My .02 - It needs nothing other than wheels/tires and maybe a small reduction in wheel well gap. But I bought it mainly because it's a rag top. I already have a highly modified money pit and wanted something I could enjoy driving on public roads. But most importantly my signifcant other would be happy to ride in and occasionally drive. She hates the other car and I don't blame her. It's just gone beyond being modified. It makes a great track car but is no longer fun to drive on the street. The S fills the void nicely.
I mod for an Autox class and for my taste. But I dont feel it is needed, just fun.
I have an 01 NFR with the following mods:
Red carpet
Moddiction Shift Knob
Kenwood H/U
PRM Intake
Berk HFC
Capt_Pants Exhaust mod
Custom Built Koni shocks with custom spring rates
Volk CE28n's in 17x9 all around wrapped in Dunlop Z1ss
I feel it could go either way for me...
in a perfect world I'd have a CR with similar mods and a Flashpro as my Autox car, and a stock 06+ base as a DD
