If Honda won't pitch in for the repair, what does it typically cost to put a new top on a vehicle (parts + labor)? Can you put an '02 top on a '00 car?

I'm getting my new top installed this week thanks mostly to this thread. Honda is going 50/50 with me on a new top.

QUICK QUESTION TO ALL YOU WHO GOT YOUR TOPS REPLACED...have you tried to complain with the "plastic got unbearably cloudy" issue.

I only ask because, like many of you guys, I too have a small hole. But my bigger concern is the cloudy window. I bought it like that and even after about 5 different products, I couldn't get it clean. I think they are just deep scratches.

SO...

Has anyone suceeded in getting a new top (or them paying for partial) by complaining about the window?

My original top had holes in it after around 30000 miles. Honda replaced it for free. Less than 10000 miles later, the top had holes again, this time bigger than the last. Honda's gonna replace the top once again. 3rd time w00t. I think the 02-current tops have a plastic guard thats stitched in on the inside where the holes occur. The 00-01 s2's dont have those plastic peices.

Do you leave your top down for extended periods of time? Like overnight in the garage maybe?

Tim: Wesloh Honda down south by ortega hwy.

Cypher, When I parked in my garage, I always used to put my top up with the original and second top. But now, since there are already huge holes, I just leave it down in the garage. Pretty much everytime I drive I drop the top though. Ive had the car for over 3 years, and prolly have only driven it with the top up about 20 times?

Because I have an 01 i'm concerned. I'm probably one of the few that hardly ever drive with my top down. Do the holes happen from opening and closing the top or keeping the top down overnight or for long periods of time or how do they happen? If I dont put mine down hardly ever, will I have a problem in the future? My car only has 47k miles on it and my extended warranty expires in May 05. (5 year warranty).

I bought a used ap1 with 50k miles and a week later I noticed that there was a hole developing due to the convertible tops frame rubbing against the vinyl.. well sure enough it rubbed striaght through. Not to mentioned this happened in three places. So I went back to the dealer and since I had just paid like $2000 for an extra warrantee they said well see call back a month later to schedule an appoitment with some honda corporate guy...anyways he came out and approved them to fix it...they paid for the top and the labor.....I think it was around $1500 worth or parts n labor
