Suggestions for testing abilities.
OK, I've had my MY03 s2k one month now, loving every minute. I think I've done things right so far (thanks to you all here). Break in period under 6k rpms, checked oil regularly, several layers of Zaino, etc. Now have 1500 miles ( all but 7 by me). Anyway, I would like to see what this car and me are capable of. I'm not talking drag racing. We have great twisties here in WV, unfortunately no shoulders, and those coal and logging trucks are hell when they come around the curve in your lane. I would like to find a place to open it up a little and get a better feel for the handling.
I would like any suggestions as to how I could achieve this. BTW I live about 100 miles due south of Pittsburgh, PA if that helps.
Thanks,
TW

Back in '95 while doing Car & Drivers "One Lap of America", we visited a racetrack in W.Viirginia, but the name escapes me at the moment.
Taking your car on a racetrack is the safest way to test your abilities, and you don't have to worry about getting speeding tickets either!!!!

if its been 6 months since you bought it, change the oil before you go have some real fun. you should follow the 6 month/3750 miles guideline. i changed my oil at 2k miles at 6 months and the oil was very black. im glad i didnt keep it in any longer, even though it has a high amount of molydbenum in it.

I second the suggestion to take it to an autocross. By FAR the best and safest way to explore the car's limits. Just too much to go wrong on the mountains and even racetrack. Once you get a feel for the car, then take it to a high performance driver's education event.

Well, actually before you change your oil, call your dealership. I was told that with the new car, they have something in the oil and not to change it until you reach 7500 miles.
As for where to go to let your car loose, I would post in the regional forum about whre those guys go and maybe you can take it on a spirited run (legally of course) or the local auto-x (which is a blast also). If you want, I can move this to the regional forum. LMK

I've paid close attention to the different ideas about when to change the original oil and decided to compromise in this way: leave the original oil in for 6000 mi. but change the filter at 3k.
