Default Supercharger problems and Warranty

Has anyone that is running a comptech supercharger had any problems with the engine or had to deal with any warranty issues?

Thanks
Chris

As far as I know, if you modify your car (all applies to any car, not just the S2000), the dealer has the right to decline warranty service. Something as drastic as a supercharger, you would probably lose your warranty.

I had a highly modified Eclipse GST and I was constantly denied warranty service and I would have to fight hard to prove that the defect wasn't caused by my aftermarket products. Sometimes, I would win, sometimes not. In the end, its not worth the hassle. If you modify your car, wait until your warranty has run out.

use the search function of this site for: SC Comptech warranty

owners of SC's have had little problems with warranty service.

Comptech to honda is like to TRD to Toyota. No voided warranties.

In fact, when I emailed Comptech about a capable installer here in Charlotte, they told me to go to the local Acura dealer. Sure enough, right at the parts counter was a slew of Comptech equipment for the Acuras.

To go a step further, a friend of mine just bought a type S CL and they asked if he wanted an upgraded header thrown into the deal! Sure enough it was a Comptech header.

That all sounds like pretty tight integration to me.

Contrary to popular belief the comptech SC WILL (or can) void your warranty. At least, it did at John Eagle Honda. I signed something saying that I undestood that my warranty was void.

The reason most people say that it won't is because Honda has never done this with previous Comptech products. The problem is that all of the other comptech products (other than the NSX SC kit) are not forced induction. Comptech is mostly known for it's NA performance products.

I'm sure it's possible that there are dealerships that won't make you sign an agreement...but you might end up having to stick with that dealership for the rest of your warranty period if other dealerships won't do the warranty work.

This isn't true. Comptech doesn't have this kind of relationship with Honda. In fact, there have been many legal battles over Comptech's CLAIM that there is this close of a relationship with Honda. I believe some of the legal issues are still being hammered out. I recall Comptech claiming to be the "Honda tuner of choice" and Honda knew nothing of this. I would say that was a very bad business move on Comptech's part.

And there are also lots of cases in court right NOW against the Comptech blower having been responsible for the demise of many NSX engines.

If you want to draw the comparison to a TRD and Toyota kind of relationship with Honda, then the natural choice is Mugen, Comptech isn't even a close second, third or fourth. Even if you just consider that Mugen was founded by Hirotoshi Honda, the son of Soichiro Honda you realize that there is a VERY close connection between the two companies.

Now a Honda DEALER may have offered the choice of putting a Comptech product on some Honda car, but to the best of my knowledge, there is NO such a relationship with Honda corporate.

Sorry to go OT on this thread, but this had to be made clear...

Carry on...

The comparison I was making is that Comptech "most parts" comptech makes will not void the factory warranty. I have talked to both Comptech and dealerships and they have told me that comptech will not void the warranty. I know it isn't HRD (Honda Racing Development) Like toyota's TRD, but in a recent article it said that honda was going to start making their own performance parts that the dealer will carry and install and the warranty is still intached. I am not saying that Comptech is the leading tuner for honda or anything like that I am just stating what I have heard from both dealers and comptech. Just my .02

Does anybody know anything about when honda is going to come out with their own tuner parts. I know it will be awhile but they already have mugen comptech and spoon.
