Several weeks ago, I was traveling late at night on a 4 lane divided highway, on cruise control @ 60 mph. A fancy stud pickup came up fast behind me, and blinded me with his headlights. I don't know if they were on bright or not, but the point is, he was high and I was low, and I was blinded by his lights.

Well, that wouldn't happen to me in Florida. Either the people in front of you are so old they can't hardly move or those big shit-kickin' heavy duty construction trucks clog the lanes. You have to drive like you stole the car and 'zig zag' thru the traffic. Fasten yo' seat belt and go like hell. With the S it's great. You can feel the gears just pulling you thru the traffic as you up shift by. It's fun, but be very careful and cognizant of changing patterns.

Last night, this lady is a civic was cruising in the fast lane at about 55mph and there were four cars all behind her, one goes by her, two, three, and now its my turn. I didn't want to fly by around her, I just wanted her to move over, I wasn't really really close to her either, but by this point I'm perturbed at the fact that three people have had to pass her and she did not move over, so I give her two quick bright flashes, so she gets on her brakes? WTF!? Now we're going 45mph on the highway, I just pass her, I gave her a nice dirty look, just MOVE OVER!!

Wow, third corner this week.

You need to clarify the circumstances that the tail gating occurs in. I commute 75 miles a day each way to and from work on the interstate. I am convinced that in Pennsylvania they teach drivers that the left lane is a travel lane! I want to drive at 75 or 80 , that's my choice I live in America, the land of the free. If you are doing 65 in the left lane and THERE IS NO ONE TO YOUR RIGHT GET THE F OUT OF MY WAY!! On the other hand if there is no where to go ( both lanes are full) I understand. And I will back off. If you see me on your bumper and your have room to move over you better do it or I will be on your ASS. And if you give me a brake job you better hope that after I hit you I am to injured too severely to kick your ass. The bottom line is stay the hell out of the left lane if you are doing the speed limit. I seriously think tickets should be given for obstructing the flow of traffic in the left lane. If I ever am diagnosed with terminal cancer, I will buy a Big truck and push all the idiots off the road who act stupid until that cop puts a bullet in my head. OK now I feel Much, better Happy Motoring !

This thread has taken an interesting twist. What began as a thread exploring the evils/dangers of tailgaters has turned into a thread concerned with those who drive in the left lane and refuse to yield to those behind. Remarkably, it seems that many people justify tailgating by putting the blame on the left lane hog. While I don't think it's right to hog the left lane, I hardly see that as a justification for tailgating. I was taught at a very early age that two wrongs don't make a right.

None the less, my whole point wasn't so much about the left lane as it was about tailgating regardless of which lane it occurs in. My point wasn't to justify it as much as it was to say that it is wrong and shouldn't be done. I don't like it when someone is sitting on my bumper, and no, I don't hog the left lane. I am perfectly willing to yield but that is not the issue. The issue really is for many people, tailgating is a part of their driving style, and it is wrong.
