I've always wondered when people park far away. It does avoid door dings from other cars but has anyone ever had any bad experience by parking far away from other cars? Why does it seem to me like since you park far away from everyone else, your car is more noticeable by thieves? Or by assholes who probably key your car because he thinks you're showing off how special your car is?
I always park way out and have never had a problem. Sometimes though parking way out does require a bit of thinking. I like to get close to a light pole or some type of curb or divider because I have need how some of the idiots out there cut through big lots and I don't want one of my rides to be a target. Actually, I would think thieves would hate a lone car, it offers them no place to hide or to walk away looking inocent from.

[QUOTE=Wildncrazy,Jan 14 2008, 07:51 AM] Until someone else pays my car payment, cleans and waxes my car, fixes the dings, etc. they have no right to tell me how or when to park.

I take care of my vehicles, just because you don't is no reason to go out of your way to try to teach me a lesson. Are you jealous that other people care and have nice things? Why? Don't you have a real life?

There are assholes out there and no matter what care you take they will try to bring you down to their level.
Mad at the world, much?

Someone forgot their lithium. And I'm not talking about the grease.

Your car, to do as you please with, on your property.

Not your lot thought...it is someone else's lot, and they pay the property tax, maintenance, and all other expenses.

As it is THEIR lot, they make the rules. Just as in your car, you make the rules.

Just as you might insist that someone riding in your car refrain from smoking, the lot can insist you refrain from certain activities and actions.

In addition to the obvious ownership rights above, remember that the lot is shared by many other people. Other people don't care for dings either, but they follow the rules. If everyone parked as they pleased, the lot could run out of spaces. Typically, lots are constructed to maximize utilization and customers/clients.

If you were kind enough to offer me a ride to work in your car, but then I was not kind enough to follow your rules, and I fire up a stogie, would that be ok? It is after all, my set of lungs AND I paid for my lighter and my cigar, so that must make it ok?

Good point. In the 3 years of owning my S, in a busy lot where you can't avoid parking to other cars, my S has had 3 door dings, a taco thrown at it, and the trunk vandalized. The worst that has ever happened parking out in the boonies is tree sap (my fault for parking under a tree). I always try to park next to a curb and/or under a street light at night. Rarely do I ever see parking lots full, so even though I don't (and never will) double park, it doesn't bother me to see a few people here and there protecting their high dollar investment.

I've seen people park their car away from everyone else, and still had a shopping cart nudged against the side....

At the end of the day, there are jerks everywhere, and you can't do anything to protect yourself 100% of the time. I generally try to park beside cars that are nicer than mine and hope the other guy cares enough to watch out.

My grandpa used to always say how he'd only park next to clean cars. I laughed about it then, but it makes sense now that I'm older. If someone cares enough to take care of their own car, chances are they'll respect yours as well.

Never take up two spots. The trick is to find a center island to park next to. That way you can park close to the island and someone would have to be a total moron to ding your car. Also, make sure you don't curb your rims because that would look really stupid.

alright well i cant really think of anything worse than having little tiny dings in my S, so do you take up 2 parking spaces or just park in the wayyy back of lots(i dont mind a little walk to protect my S). i dont take handicap or pregnant spots. haha. i always get made fun of mostly by the gf..i just think shes jealous.

but is this alright? does anyone else park in the back? or am i just crazy...

thanks
I'm one of those people who will park at the far end of a parking lot to avoid having to park next to someone else.

Back in the days when computers filled entire rooms, I use to carry a stack of IBM punch cards around in my car. When I'd see someone taking up two parking places, I'd place one of the cards under their windshield wiper, and invariably, when they'd return to their car and see the card, they'd think they'd gotten a ticket. But when they'd pick up the card and read it, instead of a ticket, they found a word of thanks, because across the top of the card it said, "Thanks for taking two parking places, you stupid SOB."

It was a joke, OK, so I'm not calling you an stupid SOB, but I do consider the behavior very rude (which was the real point of the punch cards).

I don't think it would bother anyone if you take two parking places in the far corner of a lot where there are lots of empty parking spots, but please don't take two prime parking spots just to protect your car. It's not fair to others. If someone is going to have to sacrifice a little to protect your car, it should be you. Forcing others to sacrifice to protect your your car is simply unfair.
