Stock for stock my AP2 is more fun to drive than my AP1 was. Shorter gearing and a broader powerband that doesn't fall off as it hits redline. About 30k miles behind the wheel of each car here. The AP2 is a touch nicer and easier to DD. They made the car better.

LOL @ 99% of you that think that you can put the extra aggressiveness of the AP1's suspension to the pavement.

Ive been back and forth between ap1s and ap2's. Ive drove both of them extensively through dealerships and friends cars. The main thing to understand is that everyone has a preference. Both engines are great and both offer a different feel due to their differences. I prefer the ap1's. I have driven a 03' civic si for the last 6 years or so and the ap2's power delivery feels kinda similar to my civic (k20a3), but just faster. Now when I drive a ap1 i feel that I am driving something raw and aggresive due to the more abrupt power delivery once you get into the higher rpms. It is almost comparable to a turbo pull. I like the f20c motor because it kinda has a pull that feels similar to a turbo once you get above 6K that also has a great throttle response because there is obviously no turbo lag. I honestly just feel like the ap2's are tamed down even with their added torque and more abundant low end power. I drove a 04 s2k today and I was honestly thinking the whole time that it feels just like my civic but just simply faster. When i test drove a 2001 s2k the other day I was like.....holy shit!!! this is awesome!!! I just wanted to redline every gear becasue it was so intense in the high rpms, because of the power and the engine tone. Once again, this is subjective. Both engines will apeal to different crowds. But people often describe the feeling of a v8 with more torque than horsepwer as undescribale and so do people with i4 turbos as well. To me a car like a 2.0L wrx with a bigger or any 4cyl turbo vehicle that matter is simply fun to drive beacause of the delayed power that comes on all of the sudden and then it gives you that undescribale feeling. To me, the ap1s offer a unique feel to them as well, whereas I felt the ap2's were just like driving a fast civic like in my case when mine had a jrsc on it. This is just my 2 cents on the f20 vs. f22c debate. My suggestion is that if you are unsure what to get, just go test drive each car a few times and you will find which you prefer. Simple as that.

heres a comparo of ap1 stock vs ap2 w/f20c stock vs modded ap1 w/gears.&feature=player_embedded#at=255

so maybe you should do an ap2 with f20c engine swap + gears.
ya ya?

You will not hit low 13s unless you go boost, juice, or buy another e46.
There was someone on here running 13.3 with a I/H/TP AP2. Bone stock besides that.

I ran 14.0 on a very hot/humid day with a 2.2 60' because I didn't wanna launch. I'm sure the car can go mid/low 13s on a 65 degree night with a good driver and bolt ons.

OP: They're both fun to drive. I'd say that the AP2 is more refined over all. The AP1 feels more fun, yes. But that's only marginally. It's not exactly a Taurus or something.

If I totaled my AP1 or something, I'd probably put down for the AP2. Seems like they cured all the AP1 issues and added a bit more power/torque to the wheels. Nicer gearing, etc. I'd have to swap in the AP1 steering rack, however. That's the ONE thing I really disliked about the AP2 in comparison.

I just like to have a variety of things that I can drive.

As far as referring to the smg as an automatic I suggest you guys drive one first to see what it is.
I've driven a SMG M3. It SUCKED. SUCKED is a kind word to use. The 6spd ones are nice, though.

I wish I could flaunt money on a website.

You seem to be one of the few people I've ever heard this opinion from.

Also, forgot to quote one of the first posts about the AP2 letting you concentrate less on crashing... wtf? Why would you even post something ignorant and outlandish like that? The "snap-oversteer" isn't snappy at all, it's pretty damn predictable. I drive my AP1 quite enjoyably and definitely don't concentrate on where I'm going to wreck it.

The S2000 is a temperamental vehicle. Just don't drive it like a tool and you'll be fine.

The only way to actually compare an AP1 vs. an AP2 is to drive & live with each for more than a 15 minute joy ride in a buddy's car.

I've had both (2002 (bought in 04/sold in 07, and purchased a 07 GPW in 2007).
Hands down, the AP2 wins. End of story.

i prefer the ap1. there is no 'hands down' winner here. it's all personal preference.

Everybody has a different taste, a different feel, a different opinion. There is no way to come to a forum and ask a question as to which is better. The best thing to do is get your hands on one of each that you can test drive for about a week then you will be able to come to that determination yourself.
