Like someones said before "Took my dog to the vet to get neutered, they call it the AP2 conversion, still looks the same but the balls are gone."

Well any set of gears will tromp on an AP2 off the line and low end so $500 on top of an AP1 and will feel like it has lots more torque than an AP2 and accelerate faster from low rpm's.
buy the newest you can afford, the newer the better, don't buy in the ap1>ap2 or ap2<ap1 hype, just buy the newest you can afford.
but the 2002 is the best year, it's the fastest, sold the most number of units and has been touted by Collector Car as the one to look out for, but i'm a little biased and i might be embellishing a little.

I will also reiterate that both cars are slow as hell in stock/na form. Can we please stop arguing about that portion? It's like comparing a stump to a log.
That should not be the deciding factor in any way.

I do hear the last year the s2000 was produced was 2003, after that its the s2200 under an assumed name...
j/k, j/k
Get whichever year YOU want to get. Test drive different years and find what suits you the best.

My point is you can spend half the money get an AP1 put some 4.77 gears in it and whoop an AP2. The AP2 is nice but all the "improvements" besides 10 ft lbs of torque are to make the car softer and less raw of a car. Both are nice but the improvements were made cause people thought the AP1 was too rough and too raw of a car.
Softer springs and shocks, smaller sway bars, vsa, cdv, lower redline, heavier flywheel etc.

Posts like this really highlight how little you know about the car and vehicle dynamics in general, or how little you care to know, or that you just dismiss lots of information out of hand.

Also this thread is asking for him to be told about the AP1 not why you like the AP2 better.
The only thing I didn't like about the AP2 was the slower steering rack.
CR solved that problem.
Also, when you're talking about "cheaper" AP1 costs... keep in mind that the residual value is a lot lower when you sell it as well.
