I can get 40mph in 1st on my F22c....
2nd is right around 57-58mph
AHHH....I have never driven the F22, so I do not know the gearing ratios. That will most likely be my next S2k. I would like to get the F22 and bore it out to around 2.5, get a EMS, and see how much I can get out of the engine all block.

i always make it a habit to downshift to 3rd or 5th gear instead of 4th. but if i go to fourth i'll really pay attention.
its nearly impossible to go into 1st and 3rd is good to 80mph and if i misshift into 5th its no problem.

Red line in 2nd gear on an '05 is 56.5 miles per hour. The rev limiter in 2nd gear (8,300 RPM) comes in at 58.6.

Did you hit the revlimiter? If you didn't, then you were most likely under 8,300 RPM and you should be fine. Although I suggest you figure out what the problem with your shift technique is. If you did it once, you'll probably do it again. Had you done it driving a little more spiritedly you could have been looking at some serious $$$.
The problem was the Starbucks in the drink holder. Instead of resting my arm on the console and shifting, I had my elbow up in the air trying to reach over the cup.

It's still my fault, I know. This being my first manual car has been a learning curve... I suspect my next lesson will be shifting correctly from different positions.

yeh I hardly carry drinks for that very reason, I just drink water bottles very conveniant and easy to close and you can throw them on the ground instead of a cup holder.

There's no rev-limiter on a mechanical overrev due to improper downshifting

Yup. Hitting the limiter would have been great... I would have known I landed the shift under redline.
