in salt lake city, we're about 30whp short of the pack because of the altitude (4000ft=>~ -15% power) anything with a turbo system is faster than advertised, in relative speed. but the canyons are still here, and so i don't care too much.

i'd like a supercharger, partly just to get my 30 ponies back. but IMO, if/when i get one, i my as well get up to the 350rwhp range, as i'm already in it for several grand.

270-280whp would keep it up with the joneses and just a bit ahead. the s2k needs about 15% less power than most sports cars to be competitive with the high hp cars, as these days there isnt much that's as "light" as the s2k that has 200+hp. (to compare to the Z/mustang/etc, 3250lbs/2850lbs=1.14 and 300hp/1.14=>263hp in the s2000 is roughly equivalent)

[QUOTE=dyhppy,Mar 20 2008, 07:19 AM]imo, the s2k stock and esp with gears or SC is plenty of speed for reality.

I think there's a veeeeery big difference between floating point operations per second, and 0-60 times.

Double my computing power every 18 months and I can do a lot more (search for the BigDog robot videos), but double my horsepower every 18 months, and after a while the returns are negligible.
Hahaha, one thing for sure, if we doubled our WHP every year, we'd have a harder time becoming jaded.

Me thinks tire technology might have a little problem keeping up.

IMO, anyone who feels that the S2000 has insufficient power (or torque) for street use either doesn't know how to drive this kind of car, is jaded, or is just stupid. In some cases I'm sure it's a combination of the three.
You have FI?

So which combination of those factors apply to you then?

None of the above. The car was more than fast enough for street use when it left the factory.

Reading comprehension 101.

i was talkin to a friend about back in day when cars had less than 100 hp. i think it was more than enough for 99% of the population. imagine the gas milege we could be getting if our society didn't have this urge to keep escalating. of course, i can enjoy a car more if it had more than 100 hp, but the point is most people wouldn't. it's just a complete waste of resources in such a typically american fashion.

but nothing changes and this was a fun thread to kick around.

btw, how the HELL can u compare cpu speed with hp? not even in the same realm of usage.

I am not asking for 400hp. Just take it to 280 or so...this balanced with the curb weight returns that sweet spot the S had 8 years ago.
Why not 300? Why not 350? Why not 400? What's special about 280?

If you want 280 you can get 280. Just bolt on a supercharger.

You don't think Honda deliberately detunes the S2000, do you? They are tuned about as high as possible while still meeting the reliability required in an OEM street car. To get that extra 40 HP would require a whole new engine, really. And that would add weight and lots of cost.

You seem to think that it ought to be possible to get an extra 16% power for free.

c'mon, how can you not get a kick out of embarrassing some hillbilly in his mustang when he thinks he is faster, then when they hear the Turbo spool, they mysteriously slow down and fade away, its great. I would rather have the balls, becuase you know you have it, and no need to prove it, I mostly open the S up when I am all alone, with no one else in sight, if I need to get over for an off-ramp, its great the power is there, but I don't need to impress some douche in a 350Z, the S is so much more then some mass-produced marketing machine (like the 350Z)
