Is there a trick to using the top latches?

+1, though I may subconsciously be putting a bit of forward pressure at the latch as I close it, so that may make it easier to latch.

Yep...this was my guess too which is why I asked. I think it works much better when it's hot out which probably confirms your post--would be stretchier when hot.

I'll give it another month then take to dealer. I decided to lease rather than purchase a used one partially for that reason--warranty!

I just had back surgery recently and can't work on cars like I used to. I wanted something under warranty for at least the next coupla years until I'm fully recovered. After only 1000 miles I pretty sure I'm keeping this baby after lease is up. It's just insanely fun.
