Aside from the spare tire issue, make sure you and your wife will be comfortable riding in those seats for extended periods of time. My wife and I just finished a 12 hour drive home (500+ miles from Central Oregon to Northern CA via Crater Lake). We stopped to stretch every couple of hours but we are still feeling the effects...
I drive mine between atlanta and savannah all the time (300 mile each way) and the only time I need to get out is when she runs out of gas. My point is that the seats are very comfortable for me, the driving position fits me like a glove. I've been more uncomfortable in my mom's CR-V.

I'm sure the fact that I am 6'3" doesn't help my case at all.

We should be fine....we've had the S for 7 years, and we've gone as far as 700 miles in a day before without issue. For this trip, our longest driving stint would be 5-6 hours, which really isn't too bad. I'm 5'9, and the seats fit me like a glove. My wife's biggest complaint is that she can't recline the seat and take a nap.

Yeah, I have fix a flat in my car right now, but I'm pretty resolved to never use it, that's why I was looking for a cleaner solution.

I've long been under the impression that it's not easily wiped off, and I've heard that some tire shops won't even touch a tire/wheel that's had fix-a-flat in it. Not sure if that's just a myth or not.

^ its not a myth, back when i did tires, we were the only shop around that would do a fix-a-flat tire, and they suck. you have to spend about 20 min just getting the inside of the tire dry so that you can fix the hole. although if you just plug it idk if its as big a deal cause we used patches instead of plugs.

so basically only d-bags use fix-a-flat, and the sh*t doesn't even work half the time.

plus with the f-a-f sometimes the patch won't hold and then you need a new tire.

i would heavily suggest either a patch kit or a spare.
