Too many S2000's?

It seems like the exculsivity of owning this car has diminshed. But not in a good way. When I bought my S(last year), they were very rare,a dn the people who I saw owned them were all car and track enthusiasts. But it seems like the more time passes, more and more of these puppies are showing up on the road, and not really to the crowd this car was aimed for.
I live in a small town (about 1K people) and in the last month alone, I have seen maybe 4 or 5 other S2000's that I had never seen before in the last month or two. This isnt counting the 3 or 4 in my area I lready know and hang out with.
More people having the same car as me doesnt bother me so much, its just the type of people with them. For example, when I was at the Honda dealership getting my oil changed, the Tech, who is my friend pointed out a suzuka Blue 03 to me "Yeah that guy just bought his, he was cruising in 5th and shifted down to 2nd bent all of his valves, and pretty much tore up everything"
Today I saw that same car, guess who was driving? A 16 year old with his hat turned backwards trying to stare me down. Seems that most peope buying s2000's these days fall into two categories, F&F wannabe's and old people who want nothing to do with the pride of ownership. I have passed some of these new s2000's in my neighborhood and gave a nice friendly wave, and all I've gotten in return was an icy glare.
whatever happened to car community? Almost everytime I see another S I try to find the woner and talk to him, and maybe see if he is interested in going to some of the local S2000 meets or track events. I have yet to have anyone do the same to me.
I dunno, maybe I have a different perception of the way owning a high performance, low volume car should be, but the gamut of rude and ricer owners is bothering me. Is this a typical problem when resale value is low? I never remember seeing this kinda stuff happen to vette guys.(who arent really as close knit I suppose)

Point is, everyone has a different view of what ownership of these cars means to them. Don't hate. Try just being glad to have a car that you can feel so passionate about - regardless of who else out there is driving whatever car.
I live in SoCal and I see other S2000's on average once a week. I spend 30-40 minutes a day commuting. Yesterday I drove from San Diego to Costa Mesa and back ( 150 miles round-trip on a freeway ). I haven't seen a single one.
That's exclusive enough for me.

Well, I'm a 67 year old who usually wears his Jockey shorts backward, but, hey, that's what senility will do to you. As a recent retiree, I moved to the Sun Belt [Hilton Head South Carolina], and nearly 4 years ago traded my '93 RX-7 twin turbo for the S2000. I live in a gated community of approximately 3000 homes, filled with upper middle class retirees who like their toys, so it is no surprise that there are about half a dozen S2000's in the community. Warm weather, lots of sun, high disposable income, old farts with some life left in them = S2000 buyers.
Most of them will wave back if waved at. Given the natural attrition of accidents, wear and tear, blown engines, the national population of S2000's will never be that great. I still find lots of people complimenting me on the car, who don't know what it is. And some of them are babes half my age. More scary, some of them are 'babes' about my age, whom, I fear, are hitting on me. Unfortunately, my wife does not permit me to date strange women.

The S still seems pretty exclusive here in SE Michigan, but I, for one, am done waving and giving thumbs up.
I have
or
every single S i've seen since I bought the car and NOT ONCE have I gotten anything more than a cold stare; not even a smile!
I will continue to enjoy a selfish love for my own car, and forget the rest of you MI owners. I will, of course, continue to enjoy the hoots and hollars I get from the ladies and the little kids.
Note: I'm sure this doesn't include all you S2Ki MI owners. You obviously share the love for the car since you are here! I guess I just dont run into you on the roads.
