Its not your place to lecture others. Its perfectly fine to post it, but if no one cares and it gets moved down the list of posts, oh well. But to make it a permanent note is saying your opinion is more important than others.

Street Racing is not Speeding in the legal definition. It would have been more appropriate to say that speeding is not street racing if you want to mince words. However, that doesn't change the fact that both are breaking the law, and if done without caution, can cause danger to others (I don't care how much danger someone puts themselves in). That's why I call hypocrisy, because I seriously doubt that there is one person in this thread who hasn't gone too fast for conditions (regardless of the actual limit) or broken the speed limit.

p.s. - I assert that driving is a right in the U.S. We have a right to freedom of movement, and if you can't drive, that freedom is seriously compromised if you live in places like Los Angeles, or Phoenix, AZ where public transport is virtually non-existent (you could argue that driving is not a right in a place like New York City I suppose).

You are entitled to your opinion but I disagree.

djohnston and others that think there is a BIG difference between street racing and speeding.

The only difference is with street racing you are racing another person, and with speeding you are racing the clock. Regardless, it is ALL dangerous. This is my point.

This is a six lane divided street (3 north separate from 3 south), and it can move as fast as the interstate. I'll agree that if this happened in the afternoon, that's a bit fast, but in the absence of a traffic jam, speeds don't get much below 65 there. I think the people from Philly will agree with that, particularly those who travel this route daily.
As someone who used to drive to work in his S2000 on Roosevelt blvd on a daily basis this is accurate. The pictures of the accident do not show how wide and fast this street is. The section where the accident happened is a place where you should NEVER speed or race, especially in the daytime, but most of the blvd resembles a drag strip for miles and miles. I am almost ashamed to admit to races against NSX's, Mustangs, Benzes, WRX's and several other vehicles over the last three years while driving the blvd. None of these ever occurred in the outer lanes or near the denser residential areas. I am a reluctant racer, but I didn't buy the S2000 to go the speed limit. The blvd can be VERY dangerous due to it's design and the fact the cops never seem to be present, but the temptation when you can see a clear 3 lanes ahead of you for the next mile (while sitting at a red light) can be OVERWHELMING when driving this road. This is probably what happened to the drivers involved in this tragedy.

And yes this accident will influence my thinking the next time someone revs at me on the blvd.

Gemini, you've missed the point by a mile mainly because you're looking in the wrong direction. Its not about freedom of speech - its about forcing your opinion on others. Everyone is entitled to post - but to make it a permanent fixture is hypocritical and places one's opinion above another.

As for your example of speeding past a cop, many of our rights are revoked when we violate the law - ask any felon. Doesn't mean we aren't guaranteed those rights until such time as we abuse them or reject them. I can't bear arms without getting a permit either, but that doesn't mean its not a right. You're going to have to try harder.

You guys keep referring to the victims speed as 80mph. First of all, i believe that was the yellow cars speed. Not like it makes any difference, but i believe the silverstone was traveling well over 100.

Regardless, my condolences and prayers go out the families involved.

from the pictures the damage to the yellow s couldnt have been done from anything more than 50 at the most........theres just a littel damage there and not was 80mph worth. i dont believe that they were racing *my opinion* cause if they were than both of them wouldve been doing around the same speeds....hence more damage to the yellow car......

and also the comment about there should be an age limit to which car that you own????? i think that it plain stupid. i am 19 and i have owned my s since i was 18 and well yes there are some people my age that i wouldnt give this car to no way in hell they would abuse it, it all depends on the driver and the common sense. i dont think that somthing to this nature has anything to do with intellegence but with common sense......if theres traffic dont try to weave in and out, dont cut people off dont do 80!!! i have seen older individuals driving worse than i have seen teens drive.....age is only a number not an excuse........becuase your young your stupid right??? i dont agree with this statement one bit.....................
