two S2000's crash in Philly 1 dead.....
When i saw this crash my jaw just dropped. I didn't know you could split an S2000 in half. I myself wrecked my S doin 65 in a 30 and hit a tree with my side. You can never predict anything to happen. Everyone here does drive fast and not only on the track. Everyone knows it but now people are telling everyone to slow down, not race, wear a seatbelt. I used to race everday, and mostly i raced alone. But not on school roads with obsticles and unknown road conditions. I made sure i did it on a open road with no cars and no people. Like the Highway at 2 a.m., no cars, no nothing. When i got into my "accident", i was not even payin attention to the road. When i wanted to drive fast i did 85 on the turn where i crashed, and when i did 85, i payed attention to the road to make sure that nothing was there. I found my self being so much more carefull when i tried to speed. When i drove slow is the times i got pulled over for going 9 miles over the speed limit, or making an illegal lane change. I love the track and used to go all the time, but to be good on the track there has to be some practice involved.
You shouldn't say don't street race. If there would be no street racing then there would be no other racing. These cars are not only built for the track so you can put $5,000 into your engine and wait until you can take the car to the track every other sunday. Thats why you have the parts for that car that are out today. You think that comptech would make a SC so that people could buy it and drive slow. What would be the point of any of you that have tons of mods listed under your post that reads don't speed and wear a seatbelt.
All I have is sadness for the families of the involved.

Well said Russ. Apparently, even though I've can't recall posting a street encounter and spend my fair share of time at real racetracks, my posting in said forum makes me quite stupid too. ;-) A death is a tragic occurence and sad, but let's not go overboard here.
For those of you not familiar with why the street encounters forum was created, I suggest a leisurely perusal through the history of this site. It was created, in part, as a place where those who do partake in these street encounters to recant them, discuss them, etc. It has also served to keep those stories off forums like the general forum where some might be offended by them. To put the post there as a permanent note (something the moderators have wisely, IMO, decided not to do) is inappropriate, judgemental and hypocritical unless anyone here can say they've never broken the speed limit. While street racing is not speeding, you're breaking the law either way, so its only a matter of degree. If you truly believe that everyone there needs to reminded of the error of their ways, then the forum should not exist at all, so petition the moderators for its removal - and then be prepared to release your righteous indignation on the occasional "street encounter" post that occurs in other, less relevant forums.
Oh, and I agree with Strike - there are very few "accidents" on the road that are truly accidents. Everyone is responsible for what happens to them because what happens to them is a result of the decisions they've made. You make your choices and you live with the consequences.

I agree with UL on this one. Look at the total amount of posts on this forum dedicated to getting more HP in one way or another. You guys are all doing the speed limit and just using the car to go fast on track days?
I am not endorsing street racing but the level of hypocrisy is getting a bit deep here.
As far as the driver who died. It was not an accident, it was the result of the actions of a fool.
Here is a rule of thumb people; if you see rows of houses with driveways, cross streets etc,.... you can be pretty sure there may also be kids around also so it is not a good place to speed. Anyone speeding down that sort of street FAST ENOUGH TO SAW AN S2000 IN HALF is an idiot. The fact that he was not wearing a seatbelt confirms it.
It was not an accident, it was evolution in action.
I do feel sorry for the poor passenger.

Damn, you guys would start bickering about this and that....
LOOK, a tragic thing has happened learn from it in whatever way YOU need to so it does not happen to you.
Anyone who speeds (whether it is 5 mph or 20 mph over the speed limit), does not wear their seat belt, talks on a cell phone while driving, drives with one hand on the wheel, or any other "reckless" behavior should stop throwing stones in glass houses.

I don't think anyone here would be so hypocritical as to say they stay under the speed limit all the time in their S. I don't even have any engine mods yet somehow my speedo will occasionally show three digits US
My point is that there are times and places where it's safe and even expected to show off the prowess of our cars. On a track is obviously the best example of that. But there are also places where it's entirely inappropriate to drive fast, need I say more? The main problem with street racers is that they disregard the risk they pose to the general public in pursuit of personal glory against another driver. If no one but the racers themselves were to be injured or killed in a street racing crash, then I'd say have at it, go racing and let Darwin sort you out. But in many, many cases, innocent bystanders are killed or maimed when street racers lose control. This is why it's illegal and why I spare no effort in calling those who street race the testosterone-charged mental rejects they so truly are.
For those who cite the fact that the street where this horrible tragedy occurred is known for high speed driving, I point out that it was a race; there were two S's involved, the driver killed was 20, can it be more obvious? This was not a tragic circumstance of poor road conditions, it was two people racing and one died, please do not insult us by attempting to paint a different picture of the event.
And F1s2000, I give up. You say speed kills, I disagree. The end.

djohnston You haven't answered my question. If the young man would of been doing the speed limit (even though he was racing) do you think he would of lost control and ripped the car apart? Just because you like to speed doesn't make it justifiable. Everyone has done it and so have I. But use your come sense. It is wrong, dangerous and "illegal" as is street racing and you know it.
After looking at the pictures again, it reminded me of the German S2000 crash in July. https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...highlight=s2000
The cars separated in very much the same way with the cockpit still intact. Again, very tragic! Seat belts should have helped!

THERE ARE NO PLACES ON PUBLIC ROADS WHERE IT IS SAFE! You may be lucky but if you want safe it is at the TRACK! I am guilty myself so I cannot say you or any of the other guys/gals here are worse than me. But please do not make excuses, IF YOU SPEED or RACE on PUBLIC roads it is VERY UNSAFE. Be man or woman enough to say I am wrong without making excuses.
I hate to see someone hurt or killed and my prayers go out for the unfortunate young man and his family.
Perhaps this thread should also be posted on the "Street encounters" section as "FOOD FOR THOUGHT", prior to someone's next street encounter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
