Just face the facts....From the circumstances you gave us, definitely an overrev and most likely needs a new or rebuilt engine. If you own an S, you should know better to have money on the side for emergencies just like this one. I cant imagine you not have money to get it towed. I guess I must have to say that is just some bad budgeting knowing you own the car you have. Good luck and I hope you can take our advice not to drive it and get it towed.

^^ I was going to use that line instead, but didn't want to offend the good drivers. Instead, I created a general statement that can work for everyone. Good drivers while driving recklessly(speeding, passing traffic, over rev, etc., which fall in the same category) can still get into accidents or some unexpected unfortunate situations so I didn't want them in that category. So it just made sense if you want to drive recklessly, be prepared for bad situations like this and make sure you have the money to fix it. Accidents happen to good and bad drivers.

No doubt about your post.

But the only question I have....is how the damages can get to 10g?
Right now the valve(s) is(are) probably just bent. If he keeps going the valve might break off into the combustion chamber distroying the piston, scoring the cyl walls and, if he is really unlucky, jambing the piston so that it freezes and bends/breaks a rod. All that is big bucks...easier to replace the engine at that point.

FACT: a valve job is cheaper than replacing the motor.

FACT: you were hot-rodding your car when you didn't have the money to fix it when it did break, thus why when funds are low, i drive slow.

FICTION: driving it now wouldn't hurt anything else, because FACT: you could still get away with things cheaper right now more than if, say you completely trashed the motor.

True, so it wouldn't be 10,000 - it would be the cost to replace the motor. Which can be done with 2-5k depending on where you get it. Chickenknob had one for a smokin deal - out of a wrecked car.

I think the inflation on cost is probably due to a fear mongering fee.

Lest we ever forget, the guy that mis-shifted and his engine shot 20 feet into the air, his fingers fell off, and his goldfish died. It can get expensive when you run it through the numerical integrator.

Add in labor cost for installation and shipping for the motor too.

Look at the cirumstances right before the CEL; I'm pretty sure you can attribute it to the over-rev. Listen to MX5, as mostly a lurker I've learned that he knows what he is talking about.
