V1 & POP radar?
POP radar and instant on are two different types of radar.
Instant on is in idle mode until the cop pulls the trigger, then it turns on for a few seconds...enough for usually any radar detector to pick up.
POP is like instant on, but turns on for milliseconds and then shuts down. This prevents most older radar detectors from even detecting the radar. Almost impossible to detect since it takes a time for the radar detector to locate the radar and process the signal. By that time, the POP radar is already off.

Not a fan of Motor trend but here is thier 2004 Radar detector
test.
It mentions the V1 and pop radar.

Also check out radar Roy ,some x-cop hawking detectors on the net, I beat his price for the BEL RX65 Pro by about $100 total including shipping on ebay.

If you live in a major urban area like I do being able to program the detector and eliminate a false x-band every 2 seconds makes a detector useful and not just a noise maker. Bel unit looks nice programs easy and fits perfect on the passenger side of the rear view up nice and high for max coverage and a good rear view also.

Anyone know if a 2.5yr old Passport 8500 would support it?
For a definitive answer, call Escort. They were very helpful when I had some questions.
