Default Warning on removing the H badge from the nose

While having the front bumper replaced on my '02 after an accident, I asked the body shop to fill in the two holes where the H badge attaches and paint it over smooth. After some problems with the results, the boss of the guy who was handling my account told me that he should never have allowed me to have that done, that because of the new types of composite materials they use in bumpers nowadays the holes may begin to show through again in 6 months or so no matter how good a job they do.

The shop warranties the work for life so I'm covered if this happens, but had I known about this beforehand I certainly wouldn't have had it done. Now I can only hope for the best. Has anyone else had their H badge removed and what were your long-term results?

I had the holes filled. I can see slight contour changes where the holes used to be. No one has really pointed this out to me, so it might not be too noticeable, but it can be seen. I suppose if it bothers you, you could put a badge over that area, but mine doesn't bother me enough to do that. It does 'bug' me, though.

I did mine about 18 months ago and since the beginning there has been some definition of the hole. Not enough for anyone to notice unless you know it's there or are looking for it. It does not appear to be changing with time in my subjective opinion and I would not worry about it. Ignore yours for a while and look at it next summer. In the meantime enjoy.

Sounds like they don't know what they're doing, then. They could have easily put a small piece of backing material on, filled in the holes mostly with hard plastic, and the rest with their choice of filler. The majority of the hole being filled with hard plastic would prevent the sinking effect you're seeing as the filler dries and shrinks. Any bodyshop worth a second glance would know this...
