listen....you're 16 yrs old. you should be happy that someone has the taste that you do. someone earlier said that mimicking another is a form of flattery...i totally agree (sorry, can't remember who said that, but props to you buddy). honestly, you shouldn't (your friends in particular ) make him feel bad. the reason everyone is trying to make him feel bad is because, in all probability, they're jealous that he was able to get such a nice car like you did...and they couldn't. i'm sure ALL your friends would get one if they had the money...right? what do you do when you pass another S2k on the road? make a face? give him the finger? ignore him? probably not, right? my opinion....you should embrace him as we all do here....as a fellow S2000....go up to him and say "there is a site i go to that's great....welcome to the family".

Woah... i just read over my last post and I guess since i did it at 6 o clock this morning it barely makes sense, lol.. sorry bout all the grammatical errors.. yesong yeah i know exactly what your sayinga bout somone copying your ride, it sucks but the world keeps on spinning and in a few months it will be in the back of my head. this wasnt intended to be that great of deal however im glad everyone on s2ki can conversate about even the smallest topics and turn it into a pretty large debate (which is always healthy every now and than)... well yesong nothing is wrong with chrome rims.. just not my cup-a-tea, yah know what i mean? i shouldnt criticize him for having a different taste but it was a shock to see me exact opposite style on that car, lol. again, something i'll get acustom to... as for you AusS2000..grrr.. lol..about the center console joke.. lol good one i guess i had that coming to me...and you have proved some good points and just like i took everyone else comments in and thought about them i did yours as well and they do have merit... i did go and talk to him the other day but little was said.. ill tell him about the site tomorrow.. blkitr thanks for posting picks of the rims (comments are limited ) and cedric i in no way took what you said as an insult. well thanks for the input everyone... all comments were takin into serious concideration..

Joey,

Very interesting discussion you started. I'm many, many years beyond high school, but I remember some of the petty one-upmanship that took place there. I can't say I had your good fortune to own a powerful new sports car (my old MGB was held together with bailing wire and duct tape), but I would have been a bit peeved if someone had mounted an effort to copy and/or discredit my choice of automobile. From your posts it doesn't sound like that's what happened.

It's only natural for people who love fine cars to be drawn to the S2000. Your schoolmate probably feels uncomfortable that you have a very similar car, and at the same time very proud to own such a fine sports car. These conflicting emotions might cause pretty strange behavior. My advice is to get to know him -- he may turn out to be much cooler than his initial actions indicate (he does have great taste in cars, doesn't he?). Oh, and if others at your school want to make a bigger deal out of this situation than you understand it, I say just ignore them.

As for the comments made by AusS2000 and others about the importance of social conscience over material concerns, I generally agree. Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders, a solid support structure, and better judgement than many your age. You're probably well aware that we all have a responsibility to contribute to society, in accordance with our means to do so (gee, I sound more like a socialist than the Republican I am). I'd encourage you to volunteer your time, your money and your enthusiasm to benefit those less fortunate in your community, and beyond. This may help put similar issues at school in perspective. Be sure to balance your "giving" with a healthy dose of the good times that become harder and harder to come by as you add "keys" to your pocket.

Good luck with the rest of your school years, and have a great (but safe) time with that S2000!

Overdrive, thanks for the great response. You made me think a lot about contributing back to society and I hope a get a great opportunity to donate time, money, or advice to those who need it. Maybe if you stuff your bra people will think you have bigger tits??

Seriously, a car is not a fashion accessory, you should be happy to drive it. Be a man and enjoy your car. Don't worry about your buddy, you would probably get along just fine if you tried to get to know him.

PS: I need an s2000 to get a vin. If you don't want yours anymore I'll take it off your hands.

Blk S2k,

After reading your intial post, I signed you off as another teenager living by their parents money, judging sucess by how popular they are in school, while negating what really matters in life. However, after reading some of your responses to posts here and your apparent enrollment in AP courses, I have changed my views, for now. So, I would like to share a few points with you in which I hope you will seriously consider.

Firstly, there will be a time - and you may have already began to gather thoughts on this - in which silly, material things such as someone having the exact same car as you will seem so pointless that you will wonder why you had such thoughts instead of instictinvely welcoming that person as a friend due to their excellent choice in cars and color. You will begin to realize what the important issues and beauty life has to offer (other then driving of course) that people on this board have stated, particularly AusS2000. I agree with everything he has said and reassures me that there are compassionate individuals living in the world. I commend you, AusS2000. In all comes down to treat others as how you want to be treated.

Secondly, we share some simularities, Blk01S2k, since my parents purchased me a brand new Mustang Cobra when I was a Jr. in HS. My immaturity and lack of proper driving skills resulted in me totaling the car and nearly killing myself. I crahsed at over 110mph and thank god many times for my second chance at life. Many others are not so fortunate. I only wish I obtained the skills I have now back then. With that, I HIGHLY encourage you to attend some race/driving schools at a track, say Willow Springs or Laguna. It may be a drive, but it will be INVALUABLE to you.

Finally, I would like to state that once you hit college, a rather large door of academic oppurtnities will arise and whatever 'status' of friends and 'do they like me' emotions in high school will quickly evaporate, just as they did so with me. Just make sure that the same thing does not happen in college. If so, the cycle will start all over again. So, focus on (in no particular order):
1. School and pursuing your passions and going to a ivy league school (that's been on my list)
2. Making your parents happy
3. Making the envirionment around you better wheather it be through volunteering at a local shelter, teaching kids, beach (or in your case, deasert cleanup) or setting an example at your school by inviting the other Blk S2k owner to lunch or a drive

I have rambled quite a bit and may have swayed off topic, but I really wanted to share my thoughts since I came from a high school where students were judged by the car they drove, where they lived, what race they were, and not by their actions, convictions, and morals as a human being. I despised it and to this day, it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Although, there were people that were differnt and went directly to ivy league schools from HS, but when the most families revolve around money, they become diseased by it. Feel free to PM or email if you have any thoughts.

Very best to you in the future,

-Nader
