A permanent solution would be awesome, it really is an eye sore to me. Have any of you gone to the dealer about this?

I don't think your going to find a high tech answer to a low tech problem. Tack it down wth a little adhesive and forget about it.

tried it, didn't work. my next step is super-glue ... nothing works.

There was a TSB for this. I think it said to trim the inner piece of rubber that causes the trim to stick up and then glue it down with RTV.
