I can't believe the ignorance and immaturity going on here in an s2000 forum. All of this econobox/sports car talk is pure nonsense.
A ferrari 360 challenge stradale is a sports car...we drive hondas/subarus/mitsus or whatever.
I had an s2000 and loved it, but I now drive an STi and I love that as well, but in its own right. The onyl basis to compare these cars is in their price range...other than that whats the point in comparing them, they have completely different goals.
The people saying they walked an evo on the track means nothing, it could have been the evos first track day. In the STi my times at the autox have been better than the s2ks that show up every single time, but I would never go as far to say that the STi is a better autox car.
The get a real turbo car a supra quote is also very amusing. Last time i checked under my hood there was a REAL turbo under there, nothing fake about it.
I love the fact that we in america finally have the choice between these three amazing machines. People are going to pick which one for an infinite amount of reasons.
haha none of us drive sports cars, we drive japanese muscle cars!! j/k
for now kill this thread and go enjoy your 9000 moutain carving rpm or your awd turbo.
cheers

I don't care how fast that car is, or how fast you can make it, its an economy car.

Built for people who don't have a lot of money or don't want to spend a lot of money.

All of these cars - Mitsu Evo, Subaru WRX/STI, Honda Civic, Chevy Cavalier, Kia Rio, Nissan Sentra, Ford Focus and Dodge Neon - I (as would most normal people) would lump all those cars in the same group. They are all 4 door economy passenger cars. They have about as much appeal as a minivan to me.

Sure you can mod the hell out of your 4 door and make it uber fast, but why would you want to?

However if they make a 2 door Subaru STi that would outrun those plastic Vette things then that would be

Evo, WRX, Focus are bred down from WRC cars with specific criteria for the rally circuit. The most tricked out S2000 would never be competitive on that type of course.
Civic is the evolutionary growth of a Japanese reinterpretationof the Morris Mini Cooper, the original trasverse mounted FWD econobox. As such it has more in relationship to the Golf. The Neon as Chrysler Corp's answer to the Civic 20 years too late and with typical Big 3 aplomb was made to look "cute" on the outside and cheap on the inside.
The S2000, Z3/4/8, Miata, Elise are from and entirely different lineage and concept which includes cars like the MG-TC, Spitfire, E-Type Jag, original Corvette and T-bird, open top roadsters.
Different cars for different purposes and tastes. Top end speed means nothing in a sane, real world application. Handling and response are far more important.
Ultimately, it's what makes YOU happy. Is your happiness with your S2000 diminished by the happiness of the guy next to you in his Evo?
Stop the friggin pissing contests and enjoy what you have.

It's funny to read these posts and try to put a face with what is being said. The overly harsh critics on either side of this argument form a really strong mental image in my head... you know the ones... those toolbags who can never keep their trap shut about their damn car.. the ones who are always ready to give an opinion before anyone really asks.

Who F'nnnnn cares what so and so said on another car forum about our... your... their car. Shut up and drive. Life's too short to get in a di&k measuring contest over a car you had to convince yourself to blow 30 or so odd thousand dollars on. Now all of a sudden we need to convince the rest of the world "our" car is the best?

If I'm cruisin' on a twisty mountain road, top down wind in my hair who cares what the car is?! My S2000 is as much fun as my Miata or my prior Boxster or my old 1967 Fiat 850 Spyder. Is one faster than the other....sure but I could drive the old Fiat absolutely flat out at any time (45hp!)...that is a different kind of experience than a high powered car that you can't always drive flat out. But the high powered car would be fun where the power can be used in full. There's always somebody faster out there...enjoy what you have, envy is a curse of the unhappy and dissatisfied.

This has been the source of a great chuckle this morning... thank you all.

Oddly, I find the Evo hideous looking, yet really dig the STi. Go figure. The real laugher is that so many of you think Honda, in general, is "da bomb." If some of you would spend that kind of time and energy in your communities, the US would be a better place for it.
