...and it only took 3 months to resurrect this fked up thread!
I don't drag race. Being in Orlando, all the civic ricers would probably follow me home, wait till im asleep, and strip my car of all its parts, just to sell them on ebay the next day with no worry of legal action since OPD could give two shits about stolen s2000 seats or their owners.

sorry about the rant.

Stupid Question maybe but help out the noob here...u sed cruising at 55 in 6th...can i shift directly down to second or go through the gears 5-4-3-2? i do feel dumb but i havnt driven too many stickshifts.
If I were in 55 I'd shift to 3rd.....I wouldn't go through all the gears unless you were trying to slow down by using engine braking. I double clutch when I down-shift though....not sure if that even helps, just a habit.

I would hope that the average is well over 14 considering NONE of the cars listed ran anything in the 13 second range.
Oh my god! Those are pitiful times indeed. An 89 Testorosa trapping more then 14sec!! and here most of us idolized these cars, thinking they were the shit. Some of those are in the 16-17sec range A Nissan Sentra will do that! How embarressing to own a exotic Ferrari expecting it to be fast like everyone does. I thought I was embarressed when I encountered my first Suburu STI in my S and it pulled on me. The bar sure has been raised the last few years.

89 testarossa came before the e36m3 which if we all remember the early 90s car & driver magazine saying wow 5.5 seconds 0-60...
what does that e36m3 run in the quarter mile?

All of those ferrari were running decent time for their era and their car class - nobody is going to compare a 308 to an f40 because each ferrari is designated for different classes of racing or driving.

Seriously people - get your brains together. Trying to compare performance numbers of a car that is almost 21 years old ....and not made for straight line performance is just plain dumb.

Does anybody understand what the point of cars like the 355 f1 challenge is?

Or am I talking to a bunch of 2fast 2furious people who care only about living their Toretto live style 10 seconds at a time.
I understand the concept. My reply was one that most people would agree is suprising to find. People who don't know cars that well know that their is a mystic about cars like Ferrari no matter what year it is and would expect it to be much faster or at least keep up respectivly with cars today certainly withen 20 years, but these times are just rediculous and I'm sure the handling is about on par as well, considering they were a well balanced machine at the time right

sadly it takes time for 'most' people to realize the many aspects of driving, I think that is why many car lovers ultimately come back to cars like porsche, a well balanced great around the track car. Porsche gets killed all the time in 1/4 mile comparisons, anybody ever heard of a big liter porsche well until the GT came out. GT3 comes with a flat six, flat engines are terrible for quarter miles but great for lowering center of the weight of the engine since its turned on its side. These are the sort of little details that are scarifices for handling and balance vs...quarter mile power that cars like the porsche and s2000 make for balance.

Look at the NSX, the average noob would look at its 0-60, 1/4 mile and HP and think wow for 100+k its a joke. As you can get an m3 or choice amg and KILL it... until you understand what the machine was for you can't appreciate certain cars.

Yeah this is true, most people don't look that far into it, they just want to see numbers ie: 1/4 or skid pad ratings. For myself I think its really hard to beat an early Ap1 that has been track suspended for balance, handling and grip. I have never been very impressed with Porshe out of the box. You either love them or hate them.
