I've had my 2006 car three seasons. Bought on 3 Jul 14 from a very large Honda dealer who serviced the car including fresh oil and filter, flushed and changed the brake fluid, booster recall, brake pads, etc. pre-sale.
My first oil change was at the end of the season just before winter storage (Nov 14) with 4419 miles on the oil. No oil usage. No Maintenance Minder notifications. Changed the gearbox and differential oil at the same time. I have no idea what oil the dealer used. I use Royal Purple 10W-30 full synthetic.
Second oil change a year later (Nov 15) with an additional 6551 miles on that oil. Again no MM notifications. Clean Blackstone Labs oil analysis.
Most recent oil change (Sep 16) as the result of the MM telling me to change the engine and differential oil. 5536 miles on this engine oil (12,087 on the differential). Clean Blackstone Labs oil analysis. I did the service when the MM got below 10% oil life left, before it stayed on all the time so the 5500 miles could probably have gone to 6000 or a bit more. Just didn't like the constant nagging on start up.
Not sure I drove much differently this season than the past two but the MM did not activate previously. Late summer 1,200 mile "road trip" to my old college, otherwise just fun drives, commuting, etc. Averaging 5500 miles per season and a single oil change each season.

As far as maintenance, I'm the same way- always early, never late... I don't like that nagging either, lol.
Definitely seems like your S likes that Royal Purple in comparison to the whatever the dealer used ((and maybe also taking the time to let it fully drain when changing (as in stop dripping), which I'm sure you do, and a lot of mechanics don't)).
