Make sure they haven't had any transmission problems and try and get yourself one with a glass rear window, I know its on the 02, not sure of the 01. Take a look at the tires, if the outsides are shredded, you may not want it being that it was driven very hard. Make sure they have takn care of all the recalls (spark plugs, etc).
Most of all use your gut instincts, if you think something may be wrong, it probably is...Best of Luck in your search, fill us in on how it goes

Probably the most important thing would be service records. See if any of the TSBs were taken care of. Check the tires out. If they aren't Potenza S 02s, and the car has fairly low miles, it may have been taken to the limits a few times too many. Just for the heck of it, check the oil level. I see you just joined today. You'll see by the numerous threads that a lot of S owners modded their Ss up to the gills. I'd be very leary of those cars. Plus, a lot of owners like to do a lot of street racing so I'd stay away from those.

I'd check the VIN through CARFAX.com. If you find one you like I'd post the VIN to see if it was a previous owner on this board. Look for low miles and somebody who has taken care of the car. Good luck.

[in many cases, carfax is not accurate or complete, especially in regards to accidents. i've checked the VIN on serveral cars, including mine, that have been in accidents and have been repaired, and none of the carfax reports mention anything about them. i know with the newer honda's all original body parts have VIN#/barcode stickers on them. make sure they are all there for each and every body panel, and make sure the codes match. if any or all the stickers are missing, then don't buy the car and look for another one--regardless if the owner tells you that he/she removed it him/herself. other then that, like others have said, tire wear is a good indication of how the car has been driven...
