i can't remember if i posted on this thread before, so here goes, sorry if it is a repeat...

in 2001 i bought a miata ls, love it, got a good deal and then mazda asked me to buy it back due to the hp issue, i took the $500 visa card instead...i just loved the car and knew nothing about the S2000 except the way it looked and that it put out mor ehp per liter than any car in the world...ok...

then i drove a 2001 audi tt 225 hp roadster and i loved what i saw...the resale value sucked and i thought seriously about buying it....the miata had developed several problems....2 times warped brakes, new gas tank, electrical gremlins, and three clutches due to defects....online at the mazda site i met a guy named jim who worked nearby andwanted to drive a new miata...he had a 2001 s2000...so we met in a parking lot....

at the same time another guy drives in , sees the two cars and carnut types and parks nearby....he was in a 2001 audi tt roadster...he told me so many horror stories about his audi experience that i knew now the reason the resale sucked...my new friend asked to drive my miata...i let him...

then he says want to drive my honda...i say, no, i know it has no torque and is little more than a miata...based on what i had read....reluctantly i drove the car...at first it was like a miata, only larger and with a better gearbox...we took an onramp, i gave it some gas...oh....better grip at once....staggared tire sizes...limited slip. all standard and great brakes...the cabin was more quiet than a miata and less wind....he asked me to punch it, as i was shifting about 6000 rpm....i did, and wow....we just took off when we hit vetc....like a turbo...such wonderful noise, such a rush...i was hooked...

this car was everything my miata was but more, more room, more features, a purpose built track car i could drive every day....then i went to my first track day at laguna seca...with my miata...i knew i needed more car...

i saw the S was $10,000 over sticker...then $5,000 over sticker...the miata continued to deteriorate, a new long block, new fan belt, and another clutch...it was 2003 and it would be the last of the ap1 models with the 9,000 rpm engine...i drove one...a bad experience with a fat saleswoman who had to constantly refer to the owners manual while tryingto sell me the car and never allowed me to punch it or take it on the freeway....i passed, reading that a ap2 was coming with changes....

in oct of 2003 i was ready to go...i knew the $5,000 over sticker was now bull and that i could negociate...i emailed local dealers and was told i would be lucky to get one at sticker...and then someone offered me one for $1,000 off sticker...new...

i negociated a decent trade for my miata even with a broken windshield and a better price for the S...i drove it out of the showroom, gased it up after i bought it...yes without even driving it...i have never looked back...

this has been the mosty satisfying car i have ever driven, and i have it longer than i have had a car in decades....38,000 miles later, an accident, 6 tires and fluids and filters only....i change my own oil every other change...i just love it...added rear speakers to the crap system, and removed the little bong on the key deal, and a K&N filter, pirelli pzero nero tires, one size too large on the fronts...wonderful car.

sure i wish the car would have evolved like the Z has...can't say why honda does what it does, interesting the car has basically been thesame
since new nad still sells!

Back in 2000 I was looking to get a car, since being engaged with only a motorcycle didn't quite cut it. I had been itching for a convertible for a long time and starting looking into what was available.

I loved the look of the s2000, but they were too new and too expensive for me and I settled for a 1996 Mazda Miata. That car ran great and was fun a hell to drive, but I never stopped dreaming about getting a S2K.

Back in October we finally paid off the wife's accord and I started looking into replacing the Miata. I had a really bad day at work and decided to go test drive a local s2000 for the hell of it. Big mistake!

I walked into the dealership, said "I want to test drive the s2000 right now." Took it out and punched it on the highway. Scared the salesman after busting 100. Of course, I fell in love and had to have it.

The only problem I have with it is I can't afford snow tires and by the time I can there won't be any for this year. :-p

I previously owned an '02 V6 Accord coupe which I loved, but it didn't come with a manual transmission. I switched to the S to get a pure enthusiast's car with a 6 speed and I've had such a love/hate relationship with it. I have a feeling that I won't get rid of this car until it falls apart a la the Blues Mobile.

ugh, I just had to regretfully sell my 2001 S due to financial and insurance reasons. I already miss it so much and no other car will ever take its place. Give me a couple of years, and I will own one again!

You guys are so lucky to still own one!!!

1991 Nissan Pathfinder
2002 Celica GT-S 6-speed
2003 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R
2008 Scion tC auto
2004 S2k

Missed the manual driving after the Celica, and the motorcycle was just getting to cumbersome/cold after three years.
S2000... natural upgrade from a motorcycle. I'm used to carrying nothing and taking only one person, hearing nothing while riding but engine noise, rwd (lol) but now I can drive in the rain!

Always dreamed of an s2000. =)

The first time I saw an S2k in a magazine, I nearly dropped a load in my pants to be blunt. It blew me away. My dad is a LBSC (little British sports car) guy and I've grown up with tons of respect for small, rear-wheel drive, lightweight handling beasts, and at the time, the only choices really were the girly Miata or the metrosexual Z3.

You don't see as many new cars in Boston (my hometown) as you do on the West Coast, and so it was another three months before I saw one in person... some guy at a dot-com across the street had a silverstone on black/red and he'd park it with the top down on sunny days.

I moved to CA with my ex, and at the time we had a Saab 900 SPG. That thing died. Then I got a '91 Mitsubishi Galant VR4. That thing died too. At the time I worked for VW in sales and made good money so I decided to finance... I wanted an S2k but she hated sports cars. She wanted a base Subaru Legacy wagon just like her mommy's to use as a mobile storage unit and put Apple stickers on, so we compromised on a Jetta VR6 which I started modding.

We broke up, and so I was saddled with a car that I didn't really want THAT much that was a compromise anyway. I thought about getting out of it but it was nearly paid off, so I just held onto it.

Then, I was looking at a Mk1 GTI project car in Watsonville, CA and a Suburban plowed into me at a light while I was stopped, totalling the Jetta. Twisted frame, f'ed up tranny, crumple zones obliterated. After I got out of the car and looked at it, the first thing that hit my mind was, seriously: "S2000!"

I spent a month looking until I found a completely-mint silverstone on black with 40k miles
