- what I would do is, let the insurance total and pay you out but also buy the car back from them and piece it out...
- check how much it is to buy the car back..

hope/wish/pray/mediate/chant that that car is totaled
insurance will most likely not pay for your mods so going this route could be beneficial depending on how much $$$ you can get for the mods (or if the mods aren't damaged and you want to keep them).

I totalled mine in May. I owed money on it, but GEICO said I can buy it back for what they were going to pay me, $24.5k (mine was 2002 w/ 30k miles on it). I had some stuff on it. But the only thing I could take out was my stereo/speakers due to time constraints.
If you get a chance, I would sell your parts off your current car locally and just swap it out, i.e. if you head lights and tail lights are in perfect working condition, someone with pre-02 may want to pay $ to swap it out, etc.
If you don't get your parts off yourself (or ask your local peeps for help), the insurance will give you pretty much next to nothing for your upgrades unless you had those insured in the first place.
I got nothing for my Work Meister wheels.

Good luck. Oh, and yeah, if it's your first vehicle that you totalled, insurance will pick up the tab and will give you $$ for your car, and will not affect your rate as much. Wish I've known this before hand. I ended up with a Civic to play it safe, and am now stuck with it for at least a year.

I am all for buying the car back and parting it out... Heck the soft top assembly alone is worth 1k for top frame and motors. Seems like a smart start. If the engine is in decent shape thats worth at least 3 grand. Its going to take alot to total your car though since it is a 2003 the residual value on it is still very high.

Yeah, I'm not too sure if it's considered totalled yet, because some of the exterior is ruined, but certainly fixable. The interior is like before. I'm just hoping the insurance will consider it totalled so I can do with something new. Thx!
