Mobil 1 every 2000km.

Oil is still pretty clean when I drain it.

No difference in smoothness or VTEC transition.

Peace.

We don't gotta do any testing, as most of us are comfortable w/ it's protection of our engines.
That may well be how most of us feel including me, but speak for yourself, dude.

After driving around some more, I'm not going back to conventional. The car pretty much feels the same. VTEC engagement is SLIGHTLY smoother, but the car feels normal. Which is what I want.

Peace, y'all.

You implied "us" in your statement about being comfortable. Have you surveyed everyone's thoughts on synthetics?

With the responses we've seen in this thread, it's obvious we're not so comfortable to ignore the question whether synthetics are "better" than conventional oils. People are curious.

Do people ever tell you that you're really anal?

I'm only at 4,600 miles on my 2000 S2000 (yeah, it's a 3rd vehicle) and currently use Castrol 10-30.....and will be telling you all the same oil when I have 100,000 on it (if I live that long, he-he). Bravo to Castrol..... I wouldn't have it any other way. Koolride

First off, high octane racing fuel offers other benefits beyond detonation resistance - and it has been proven that even modest street engines can produce measurable power increases on teh stuff.

In terms of my experiences iwth Mobil1, read the link to the thread that MarkS2K posted, there is lots of speculation about how, what, why, etc.. In summary though:

Went to Mobil1 at 3000 miles (10w-30 always).

Car produced 202 wheel hp on Mobil1 (didn't dyno before that).

Added Mugen header just after changing to Mobil1.

Fuel mileage began dropping (17.5-18 mpg around town vs. 19-20). Tailpipe deposits went up. Attributed it to Mugen header, decided to live with it for the extra power.

At 14,800 miles, decided to try dino oil again (Mobil) due to poor availability of Mobil1 and in anticipation of trying another brand of synthetic. Now have 16,200 miles on car. Gas mileage has increased by approximately 10% under all conditions. Have consumed about 0.5 quarts so far (a little above normal, but not excessive with lots of VTECing).

I'm going to change back to Mobil1 10w-30 in another 500 miles or so. I'll redocument mileage. Then I'll try 5w-30 Mobil1 and see what happens. I'm also going to run dyno tests.

Vipers come from the factory with Mobil 1, seems like a solid recommendation...
