The top you want on the vette is called a targa top.

Buy the vette if you want, but I like the S alot more. I never liked vettes myself and lately, i've seen more of those than S's. Plus the new vette's look like a cross between italian rice and japanese rice.

If you decide to get the vette, look into getting catalogs from Mid-America Motorworks. They have boku stuff for the vette, inside and out.

If you already drove it and found yourself wanting one while you were driving, then perhaps your mind is made up. Every car has a compromise so when you move onto your next car you're going to miss the endearing traits of the previous car.
Btw, you shouldn't let things like image of the car factor into your decision when deciding on a car you drive for fun, unless your idea of of fun involves status. Most of the C5 owners I see these days are 30 somethings car enthusiasts, just like how most S2000 owners I see aren't Asian F and F wannabe gangsters or females. Most people outside our realm of S2000 owners and enthusiasts don't exactly view our cars in the same light as we do; it's time to end the cycle of hate people! ... but I digress.
Anyway, I'm interested to know which way you go because the C5 I believe is going to be my next car.
If you really want to go by that, I mostly see women / old men driving vettes because of their midlife crisis. I'd also venture to say 9 out of 10 are just autos. Doesnt seem like the enthusiest car image to me? Of course this is just the NJ reigon.

I may be able to help out, since the car before my s2000 was a C5 Z06.

The Corvette is MUCH MUCH more powerful. I drove a stock s2000 at a dealership, and couldnt believe how slow it was (i have a turbo s2k, i couldnt live with driving a stock one) The corvette is much larger, and to me would be a beter daily driver. When i have some stuff in the passenger seat of the s2000, and i pick up a friend, i have to get out and take everything to the trunk which is a pain in the ass. The corvette has a lot of room to just throw stuff behind you if needed, and has an actual glove box.

The main reason i ended up selling the z06 was that it was a little to nice for me at the time. I dont have a garage, and the z06 was mint. I ended up selling it and buying a turbo s2000 that isnt 'perfect' so that i dont mind if it sits outside, gets snow on it, etc...

I will say one thing though, the corvette feels like a BOAT compared to the s2000. Its hard to see over the dash (and im 6' 3") and a lot harder to park in tight spaces as well.

I gotta chime in since I owned a C5 before I bought my S.

Both are awesome performance machines, and can be very fun on the street or track. Sometimes I do miss my C5, but I would miss my S too if I sold it. I miss the LS1 power, but I don't miss the weak low speed steering feel or the electrical glitches. Yeah the shifter sucked, but put in a short-throw shifter in and it's a different story.

The people who are saying "C5 Z06 maybe, but not a regular one" probably have never driven either. The C5 Z06 is a notch better, but a few bolt ons and the 'regular' one is just as capable. Personally, I prefer the coupe look.

As for the above stereotypes, none of the vette (or S) drivers I know match those stereotypes. Besides, who cares what anyone else thinks?

Tough choice, but only one you can make. Sometimes it's just time to make a change, but sometimes it just seems the grass is greener on the other side. Just test drive as much as you can, and think about if this is just a fling or a committed relationship

Go by what?
I'm saying don't judge a car by what the public perception is, sometimes the general population just doesn't know better.
Btw, how is a Corvette not an enthusiast car? Just because it sells more autos than sticks? So if I engineered a V8, rwd sportscar and focused on power and lap times (if sacrificing feel and refinment) and less on interior refinement, and then offer an automatic so I can actually try and make more of a profit by selling more units at a lower price, that makes it less of an enthusiast car?

The reason I wouldn't want a vette is because so many people have one. I love the steering, I love the full vert effect, but the thing i love most about it is the rarity. I see maybe 0-2 s2k's per day opposed to the 5-10 vettes. The power of the s2000 isn't really there if thats what your going for, but thats why theres turbo's, sc, and itbs(many more mod that add power of course).
