It's the cost of making JDM fanbois splurge in their pants when they see your motor.

Can't believe this thread is still lasting lmao. If it's too expensive, then just put your opinions and let it be it. No need to start bashing some JDM products. No one ever forced you to buy them :S.
People can spend their money on whatever they want. There's always going to be haters.

Check out this exhaust for e46 m3 owners for $20k:

I'm about to get and E46 M3 as a daily driver... don't think I'll be upgrading to this exhaust.

I was on a sponsors website (don't want to say but they are a great sponsor) and they have a ASM Carbon Fiber intake that cost $3579.99 !!!!!!!!! The discription doesn't say much and i can't see a lot of gain from it... Who would buy this when that is the cost of a FI kit? If you have money like that, why would you waste it on an intake? I know not everyone wants to be FI but damn... is there something i'm missing?
A buddy of mine thinks I should reply in this thread, so here goes:

Wow, the intake has gone up in price significantly compared to when I first bought the ASM intake in late 2004. I'm sure if you do a search, you'll find the 11-page thread about the "carbon-fiber testicles", "carbon-fiber esophagus", or "carbon-fiber cancer".

Is it overpriced? Absolutely. Is it worthwhile? Depends on what you do with your car. I'm sure most of you don't track your car and use it for the streets only. In which case, yes, it's a huge waste of money. FI is a better way to go. If you autox your car, chances are this intake would put you in a different class and put you somewhat at a disadvantage. At the track, it's a very safe and reliable way to get a bit of extra throttle-response. Do I absolutely need it at the track? No, especially since suspension, tires, alignment settings, and driver skill are far more important than horsepower (my 9 years of track experience tells me this). But in 2004, this was a novel alternative to the other intakes on the market at the time (Mugen, Comptech, AEM, J's Racing).

Would I recommend this intake now? Unless you're an ASM enthusiast (and I restrict it to just that, not just some JDM-lover), the NO. I don't think a casual S2000 owner could fully appreciate the intake nor would I expect them to. Do I really care what others think of this intake? Not really, but I'm bored and figure I'll throw in my $0.02 since everyone has already.
