Default 00 S2K running weak

Well I bought my 00 S2K about 2 weeks ago and have been bringing it back to life.

It has 88k miles on it... new oil change, new diff fluid, new iridium spark plugs, new air filter.

Car has a short ram intake / test pipe / invidia cat back

So it's felt pretty peppy to me when driving.. it's not breaking up at WOT or anything...every now and then while cruising or when I go to take off it'll studder and if I give it some gas it'll correct itself.

Never an issue at wot or highway driving though.

My buddy has a 93 240sx the DOHC with intake/exhaust (nothing faster than a 15 second car probably)

We were cruising one day and just for grins we ran em from a 2nd gear pull on the highway (I was at about 5-6k rpms at take off) and shifted to 3rd right at 8500 or so. Then 4th....and he was only but 2 cars back from me.

This had me .... I know S2KS are not the fastest in the world but it should be a mid/high 13 car as is. There was no driver error in the roll race....so I would have assumed I would put bus lengths on him.

That was before I changed the plugs... the old plugs looked just that, old...but they did not look fouled out or nasty. I also changed the air filter after that and did the "map wack" or whatever you want to call it. Pulled the back up fuse for about 5 minutes and then turned the car on to let it relearn for a while.

And the stutter still comes and goes from time to time....

I'm not sure what the issue can be....if the studdering every now and then is related to the lack of power.

It pulls hard on the highway or so it feels.... I guess not as hard as it should be...

I've searched and keep doing new fixes I find... and I'll continue to search but I thought I'd make a post and see if I can get any new insight.

Thanks in advance,

Forgot to add that the car is getting TERRIBLE gas mileage.

I filled up and I've gone 45 miles and I am at 3/4 of a tank.

I've done 2-3 WOT pulls in maybe 2nd to 3rd then let off... but nothing crazy and not too often.

did you try a valve adjustment. my car has 84k miles and i did a valve adjustment and now the car pulls alot harder and i used to get a hesitation at 3.5rpm and now the power just climbs right to redline. my midrange is better to esp. on the highway. i also replaced my spark plugs too.

+1 for valve adjustment, got mine done earlier in the week by Billman here on the boards in the metro section, cars pulls nicer runs smoother and engine/valve noise is way way lower.

shifting at 8500.....ride it out to 9 man...imo there is driver error from roll races.

defintly get an adjustment, and start hitting 9 =)

I'll have to look into that... I've got the tools to do the valve adjustment...unless the S2K requires something special.

I got into "race mode" and I did take er up to 9000....and I even wot shifted into 3rd.... it grabbed hard enough to spin a little in 3rd.

(it has a stage 3 clutch in it... pretty much on/off that grabs hard as a mofo)

It wouldn't surprise me if it needed the valve adjustment to be honest. The guy didn't seem to take care of her.

Thanks guys

Our cars are not fast (that's why I needed the boost) and 2 car lengths is still pretty good for stock against a 15 second car. If you go WOT a lot, you will get poor mileage.

High 13 second car that is suppose to trap anywhere from 99-105 will put bus lengths on a high 15 second car that traps 85mph.

Like I said... I've driven cars with 500 + hp at the track on several occasions...even 400 + hp FWD cars and managed 2.0 60s on street tires.

Definitely wasn't driver error on the run I had with a friend.
