Default #2 Coil and sparkplug Melted

I have 53,000 miles and was driving on Friday and noticed a slight loss of power so I started to accelerate and the engine just shut off and wouldn't restart. Prior to this the car has been running great no problems at all. Except for me noticing the valves were starting to make some noise so I drove to Honda and picked up a valve cover gasket so I could adjust the valves on Saturday. Anyways after I got the car home I started to investigate the problem and pulled off the coil cover and pulled out #1 coil good tried to pull out #2 ended up being melted and with a little force came out, coil had no more plastic material on it and plug was completely melted less the porcelain and the nut part of it, but that was hollow no more threads. #3 coil was heated up enough to have discoloration on it and #4 was in good condition. So I went down to Honda and talked to them about the problem and they suggested to have it towed there and as of today pulled the head off to try to find the problem.... Sorry for the long winded description but wanted to see if anyone has had any problems at all with there coils? Have pictures if anyone is curious and I will be taking more digital photos tomorrow of the head and cylinder. Thanks Brian

Was the spark plug recall ever done? Sounds like damage from a loose spark plug.

I had the same problem with my car at 38 thousand miles. Parts from the coil were found in front of the cat. A fair bit of damage to the motor.

If you're looking for someone to rebuild the motor, I used Joe Alaniz and highly recommend him. http://www.alaniztechnologies.com/

The spark plug recall was done at 30,000 miles. I had the same problem as the recall, but they could never duplicate it but that was last year.

Sounds like the failure was caused by plugs backing out. I would guess they were not torqued correctly last time they were out.. if it was when the recall was done your culprit is at the dealership.
