@ 17 quarts / 40,000 miles this still seems okay in that a quart is per every ~2k miles or so. It's actually probably a pretty decent "purge" rate in that you're able to add more of the anti-wear, cleaning, and other additives over time to create a pseudo steady state oil composition for your motor.

I would like to know if you use the OEM Honda filter and if you do, do you keep it on for the entire OCI?

No, I use the Amsoil EaO-15 filter that goes with the bypass filter setup. It's much larger than the Honda filter. The filters get replaced when I change the oil, so they remain for the entire OCI.
