Blackstone oil report for an oil burning S2000
This isn't a problem, but may be useful to someone who has an oil consumption issue who worries about their car. I had Blackstone do an analysis and a TBN when my car hit 20K miles. I try to do changes at each 3700 miles while the car is under warranty.
Well, it looks like my worst fears are unfounded. I've been doing a frequent-change schedule for this car that does mostly a 10 mile commute (each way) in crappy local busy roads. I'm now going to follow their advice and extend the change interval to 4200 miles. Even though it went through 2.6 quarts in 3500 miles and had 20K miles on the air filter (since changed), it got a great report. Here it is:

Since it sounds like that is a typical report, what do you folks make of it? At the bottom I can see the oil is within the limits but what about all the comparisons of metals - S2k vs Avg? What does it mean when they say TBN 7.6 still high?
I fall into the same arena as some of you with my consumption averaging a quart every 1800 miles. In my non-engineering mind it would appear we have a 'loose' engine when it comes to tolerances and therefore it might be less likely to wear; or would that make it more likely?

It would seem to be that latter. As for the frequency of change, I don't sweat that. I do mine every 3500 on average. A 6-pack of Mobil 1 is $23 & filter is $6, so who cares about cost.

I've been told by an oil distributor that TBN is meaningless in a gas engine - it's for diesel engines. I don't recall the specifics but I won't be spending $10 on it any more...

$23 every 3500 miles to do the oil at the dealer with my supplying them a case of Mobil-1 and they the parts and labor won't kill me. I still like the idea of burning as little cash as possible but I will follow the service intervals as long as the car is under warranty.
FWIW: I'm already down 200ml of oil after 300-400 miles.
