Default am I being paranoid? Difficulty engaging 1st...

Hi guys,
I've been lurking for a while and bought an nfr 05 a while ago. You guys have been very helpful and I had a question for y'all. After decelerating in 6th to neutral about once a day I have trouble getting it into 1st without shifting into 2nd before it will engage 1st. Is this normal? I feel like it started after I took it to the dealer for the latch rattle and axle nuts( which they didn't do). So I don't know if the tech did anything to cause this(what could you do to cause this?). What do you guys think? Is this a normal quirk that I didn't notice before? Btw trans fluid is fresh >2k. Thanks guys!

It's not normal, but it's also not unheard of. I don't know what causes it. My car got to the point where I'd have to go from neutral to 2nd to 1st every time after coming to a stop. I never did put much effort into diagnosing it though - but when I put a new clutch/flywheel/pressure plate in, the trouble went away (nothing to do with the shifting issue.) Could be that a clutch line bleed was all I needed, I dunno.

i had the same problem about a year ago when i was at a stoplight. i try to engage 1st but, it wouldn't go in... and i didn't want to strong-arm it in there, a couple pumps of the clutch, and it reluctantly slipped in there. the problem reoccured erratically for the next year

i recently found out that i had a clutch leak, so i brought it in to the dealer to get it serviced under warranty. i dunno why it took me so long to realize....

but yeah, it could be your clutch not disengaging when you press down.
it could be due to a leak, or air in the line, or whatnot.

thanks guys! I'll probably bleed the fluid tomorrow. I'm glad to hear that it doesn't sound like it's dealer abuse related. I'll check for leaks also. Would adjusting the clutch pedal also be a viable option?

And mark I'll probably have to figure out the next track day so I can get together with you guys!

just a quirk of the car. S2000 is loaded with 'em. stop worrying and enjoy it. you'd know if you had a problem.

I kinda have the same problem with down shifting to first gear while coming to a stop. I just wiggle the lever a little then it get into the gear.

Bled the clutch this afternoon - after about 4 cycles it was bleeding clean fluid. Talk about a night and day difference! I thought the transmission was great before, it is even better now, and I can shift quicker and in a more fluid motion without grinding or getting that sensation of almost grinding ( which I thought was my fault before - making my declutching more deliberate) . The clutch pedal is nice and firm, just like a freshly bled brake pedal! Thanks guys - oh yeah, from what I can tell my engagement problem is gone, reverse goes in easier too!
