I've brought this point up before, if the diff failed because the pinion climbed the ring gear (busting the bearing caps and pushing the diff back) then a Kaaz ain't going to solve that problem.
I think we've got two separate problems going and the predominant one is not the Torsen, it's the weak bearing caps or excessive flexure of the differential housing.
I think Spoon sells a differential housings.

Well someone please show this to Honda. They think nothing is wrong with their diffs. If you notice...most times when a owner sends his/her car in for diff problems they look for anything possible to make YOU pay. They think its nothing wrong and if there is..they dont know what and cant garauntee that it wont happen again. Tom Elliot I hope you are looking at this. Its happening to alot of us.

I wonder how many diff failures involved this bearing-cap failure? It could be that it is simply weak caps. The fact of the matter is that axle-hop (I've said this before, and I'll say it again) will have a 'hammer' effect on this very part. (the bearing cap.) So if you begin to feel the slightest bit of axle-hop, back out of it.

No offense to anyone here, but that is likely what caused many of these failures. Some people don't even know what axle-hop feels like. Still, the stock housing should be able to handle some hop without self-destructing, so I'm not trying to exonerate Honda from responsiblity here. I'm just saying to save your rearend, avoid axle hop.

Also, as someone else stated... replacing the diff with a Kaaz will not help anything if weak bearing caps are the problem. Also, with some of the 'repeat' broken rearends, if the caps are fragile that means they are very sensitive to installation (torque values, etc.) The dealer could have easily caused the second failure with a poor installation.

I guess a letter writing campaign to Honda from everyone who has had failures might help them understand the problem, and maybe recongnize a pattern. However, with the poor attitude that some of you with failures are exhibiting, we won't get anywhere. You have to understand that Honda will naturally doubt that there is a problem until it's proved conclusively. And 1/2 the time it's the dealer and not Honda that's being unreasonable. My point is - even if you feel you've been slighted, understand the business of all this. It's nothing personal, and the whole situation sucks - this is what happens when cars are new. We are the guinea pigs. And until it becomes painfully obvious that there is a problem, people are going end up unhappy.

I sure hope Honda is trying to get to the bottom of this.

i talked to my mechanic for a while on this one (there is 1 mechanic at this dealership that works on my car everytime she's in) and he says it's not an uncommon problem in racerars. He says that he comes from a racing background and many strong cars will beef up their bearing-caps with steel supports, since cast iron is not the best material to be taking a beating like it does in a diff on a high power car.

of course honda should've though of that before they decided to warranty the part, it would have saved much arguing by beefing it up or cost many sales by only offering a limited warranty. I wonder how many of us wouldn't have bought the car if it only had a limited warranty.
